Most nonprofit organizations are making use of video as a communications tool, but not as many consider their long-term objectives with video. In a quickly evolving media landscape, a video communications strategy must include short- and long-term planning, audience identification and segmentation, and distribution strategies in order to get your organization's message to the right audiences. Join our panel as we explore best practices in the planning, creation and distribution of nonprofit video.

In seguito alla crisi alimentare del 2008, i fotografi del collettivo TerraProject cominciarono ad investigare le caratteristiche dell’agricoltura industriale a livello globale, alla ricerca delle cause scatenanti che avevano condotto all’esorbitante rincaro dei prezzi, e alla conseguente instabilità socio-politica in molti paesi in via di sviluppo. Da questo ambizioso viaggio di indagine sono nati 7 diversi reportage, realizzati in altrettanti paesi del mondo: Brasile, Filippine, Etiopia, Madagascar, Dubai, Indonesia, Ucraina. Ogni racconto mette a fuoco uno degli aspetti problematici legati alla pratica dell’agricoltura intensiva e alla trasformazione della terra da risorsa a bene commercializzabile, tra cui la produzione di biocarburanti, le monocolture intensive, la finanziarizzazione dei prodotti agricoli, l’esproprio di terre ancestrali, la produzione agricola destinata all’esportazione, ecc. Dopo ripetute pubblicazioni editoriali in magazines di tutto il mondo, il progetto è confluito nel libro LAND INC., pubblicato dall’editore francese Intervalles anche grazie ad un’iniziativa di prevendita. Durante il panel, due fotografi di TerraProject presenteranno il libro, illustrando il lungo processo di cui esso è il culmine, e discuteranno insieme a Luca Miggiano, esperto di Land Rights di Oxfam, sulle conseguenze globali del passaggio da un modello agricolo di sussistenza a uno industriale: è lecito parlare di sviluppo agricolo, oppure di neo-colonialismo?
Following the food crisis of 2008, the photographers of the TerraProject collective began to investigate the characteristics of industrial agriculture on a global level, in search of the trigger that had led to the exorbitant rise in prices and the resulting social and political instability in many developing countries.

Da qualche anno realtà virtuale, realtà aumentata e video a 360° rappresentano una delle frontiere di sperimentazione per il giornalismo. Il 2016 è stato l'anno nel quale molti editori e redazioni nel mondo hanno deciso di investire risorse in progetti di narrazione visuale immersiva. Piattaforme come youtube e soprattutto Facebook consentono di raggiungere una audience globale, la tecnologia per la produzione e la fruizione di questi contenuti si sta diffondendo a costi sempre più competitivi: i tempi sono maturi per capire se oltre al cosiddetto "effetto wow" c'è un futuro giornalistico ed editoriale. Ne parlano alcuni esperti già da tempo impegnati a sperimentare e studiare questi formati.
For a few years now virtual reality, augmented reality and 360° video represent one of frontiers of experimentation for journalism. 2016 was the year in which many publishers and editors worldwide decided to invest significant resources in immersive visual storytelling projects. Platforms like YouTube and especially Facebook allow a global audience to be reached, the technology for the production and use of this content is cheaper and cheaper: the time is ripe to see if in addition to the “wow” effect there is also a journalistic and editorial future. The session will hear from experts who have been experimenting with and studying these formats.

Guida pratica alle fake news: ricette per investigare sugli ecosistemi di disinformazione online. Qual è lo stato delle fake news nella vostra nazione? Come si posso investigare i fenomeni di disinformazione? Questa sessione esplorerà come gli approcci a metodi, dati, tecniche e ricerca digitali possono essere usati al servizio di una maggiore comprensione da parte del pubblico di politica, produzione, circolazione e risposta alle fake news online. In particolare, analizzerà come le tracce digitali del web e delle piattaforme online possono essere riallocate al servizio di progetti di interesse pubblico di ricerca, investigazione e storie basate sui dati. Presenterà anche diverse storie basate su dati riguardanti le fake news, ed offrirà uno sguardo dietro le scene su come sono state create. La sessione includerà il lancio ufficiale della nuova Field Guide to Fake News (Guida Pratica alle Fake News) di Public Data Lab e First Draft Coalition. Cosa permette al fact-checking di funzionare in TV? Gli autori televisivi dovrebbero creare un vero e proprio format con regole precise. Gli spettatori dovrebbero essere consapevoli di trovarsi in presenza di qualcosa di diverso, altrimenti non potranno distinguere l'uso di un approccio diverso nel flusso di informazione e di emozioni. Non potranno distinguere un opinionista da un fact-checker. Non potranno scindere i fatti che formano un'opinione dai fatti che costruiscono un giudizio. Parleremo di fact-checking come format televisivo insieme ad Alessio Mantzarlis, Natalia Hernández Rojo e Patrick Worrall. Parleremo di fact-checking come elemento della trama. La sfida che ci troviamo ad affrontare è inserire ciò che è stato programmato e realizzato in una trama in continua evoluzione. Ma come possiamo essere certi che rimanga interessante nel momento in cui la trama cambia? Parleremo di fact-checking come segmento separato di un programma. E parleremo di fact-checking come programma a sé stante. Un buon fact-checking in TV è importante quanto il fact-checking in generale, per garantire agli spettatori un'informazione adeguata.
What makes fact-checking work on TV? TV authors should work on creating a real format with precise rules. The audience must be aware that something different is happening. Otherwise, they can’t distinguish this new approach in the flow of information and emotions. They can’t distinguish a pundit from a fact-checker. They can’t distinguish between facts that build an opinion from facts that build a verdict.
