On the fairly mild waves at New Brighton Beach near the pier. The sky and sea were a light greeny blue with lots of white clouds. The Paddleboarder managed to get on top of his board and tried to surf/paddle down the waves. (For Definitely Dreaming Week 40 theme of "on top of")
The last time I was here, 3 years ago, I went out for a dawn photoshoot (the dawn had spectacular colours) and ended up falling into the sea with camera. Needless to say the camera didn't survive. I was a bit more careful this time!
While the weather remains overcast and coolish, it is better than Melbourne which has drenching rain again and flood watch in the regional areas.

Much as I'd like to think this was pure nature, these ducks and many, many others were scared up by a paddleboarder going by.
One paddleboarder prefers serenity, others risk the waves, seagulls wait. Stark colour change highlights the silhouette of man, board, seagull and sand bar. Muted sunrise on a purple morning.

White Rock Railway
The City of White Rock has a railway that runs along the waterfront. This single track rail line operates 24 hours a day and is operated by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) and is used by BNSF and Amtrak passenger trains.
White Rock has a moderate climate, with average daily high temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius in summer and 6 degrees Celsius in winter.
White Rock is named for a distinctive large white boulder on its beach near the promenade, a glacial erratic that migrated south during the last glaciation. The 486-ton granite boulder was kept white by shellfish-eating seabirds whose guano covered the rock, so much so that 19th-century sailors used it as a beacon. However, it is now kept white through monthly applications of white paint by the city parks department, and has been a popular graffiti target for over thirty years.
Legend.
The large, white rock is mentioned in the legends of the local Coast Salish peoples. One legend says that the white rock marks the landing spot of a stone that was hurled across the Strait of Georgia by a young chief It was said that he and his bride would move from Vancouver Island to wherever the rock landed to make a home together.

The sea was like a mirror on this morning, and I was trying to capture how flat and calm the sea was. The paddleboarder came into shot to give some interest, and the rays of light coming through the clouds gave me some great light.

Every once in while I like to pour through my photo archives looking for the one or two that got away, yesterday was one of those days; I was home alone and spent the better part of the day reminiscing and remembering some of the adventures Karen and I have been on. I pulled several images that on second sight caught my eye. I will post two today and perhaps when I have time post a few of the others. Each is wonderful in its own right and can stand on its own as a strong image. I love images that tell a visual story that really do not depend on a lot of explanation.
A lone paddle-boarder with the Toronto skyline in the background made a very interesting shot.
Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

Those of us who got up early on Christmas day and made it down to the beach, had a wonderful start to the day.
Sunset tonight, 6th Sept 2021, over the Solent. The paddle boarders and swimmers making the absolute most of the late evening warmth and sun.
I was greeted by the resident Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) at the South T Pier this morning; I waited a half hour for him/her to fly wshen I switched to focus on some paddleboarders coming by; That's when s/he flew and I missed it; Sony a9; Sony 200-600 mm lens at 200 mm; 1/2500 sec; f/8; ISO 500; Gitzo tripod; Topaz AI De Noise and Sharpen
And yet only very recently, I was commenting that most sailboats seem to have white sails. So contradict me, why don't ya, eh?! :-)
Another shot from my trip to Brighton on Sunday. This one is from early on when the starlings were just beginning to arrive. The two guys on paddle boards had an amazing view of the murmuration above them. I was relieved to see that they had their heads covered though. Probably wise in the circumstances. :)
The surf was particularly rough that morning, and I was surprised to see so many people in the water. They were pretty far down on the beach, making me very happy when I was able to capture a few shots while they were on their boards and visible. The pelicans flying by were a bonus!
Thanks to all for viewing, faving and/or commenting! Much appreciated! L 😊

hundreds of thousands of hectares lost, tens of thousand of people evacuated from their homes . . . evidence of the massive wildfires plaguing British Columbia has finally reached Vancouver Island . . .
while many of them are started by lightening, an unforgivable number are human caused (accidentally or purposely . . . what's wrong with people??) . . .

Yes we actually had a sunny day! With the start of June being cloudy and the cold temperatures extending for many days below normal I was starting to think we wouldn't see the sun for the whole month. But here is proof we had at least one sunny patch!!
