viewing calm waters in early December as i sat lazily on the beach

September 3pm hour. A mesmerizing treasure trove of golden sunshine sparkles appeared in the water as I was walking around Ventura Harbor. Then in the fresh ocean breeze, along came a stand-up paddleboarder, unencumbered and uncluttered. After swirling through the sparkles like a lightweight nomad, he turns and looks back. I wonder if he saw the same thing I did. Anyway, it looks like he was freely enjoying the afternoon and I hope he goes home happy.

To be here was such a treat. I wanted a picture with boats for my 'Hours' picture because I was born in September in the 3pm hour on what is now 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day', so it worked out well. Arrr, Matey!

September is so lovely and it will transition into Fall before we know it. As Summer fades, it leaves its door open just a little...

Thank you again for your patience, my Flickr friends. I'm still off and on for awhile longer.

Abersoch, Llyn Peninsula

just right, its gauzy blue

and soft mauve, how

it reflects upon the sea

between the boardwalk

and breakwater, shoal

farther out, sun going

down, a few gulls

prospecting the beach

along the jetty, some

wisenheimer in a blue

souped-up Chevy in

the parking lot, his

music cranked up,

a primal distress cry,

one might think, but

as the girl glides past

on her paddleboard

she seems oblivious

to all but the small wake

she cuts through the blue,

deeper than the sky

which glows with last

light, her rhythmic stroke:

reach and pull, stroke

and glide, almost sensual

as the waves break

and purl against the reef:

the scene could be

a painting if you were

not so mesmerized,

had brush, paint and

canvas and knew how.

Balancing on a paddleboard at the Hawksebury River

Arnside, Cumbria, sits at the northeastern corner of Morecambe Bay. Here, the sands are exposed temporarily near low tide, with the shallow channel of the River Kent estuary the only water.

A man and his son are on a paddleboard, letting the current do the work. Liminal - calm and peaceful before the tide turns.

World Photography Day 2024

Sure sign of spring. The paddlers are out. Don't fall in - water temperature 3 degrees C not balmy nor is outside temperature of minus 3 degrees C.

The fish bite the best at night. I have photographed these 2 a few times now. The bond they have is amazing. Maybe we need a lot more fishing in the world today.

"On the Move" for Smile on Saturday. This dog seems a natural at balancing on a paddle board.

These two were enjoying the calm sea at Lepe at the end of a warm day.

Thank you all for your kind responses.

Relishing the tranquility and solitude of the sea all to himself.

Not a scene that would have been seen ten years ago. Given that many of these boards are inflatable they can be carried just about everywhere.

Yes someone is out shirtless on lake ontario in december...

Another day at Ocean Reef Marina. I saw this lone paddleboarder in the Marina. Its an attractive place to paddleboard as its safe and out of the wind. I really liked the contrast between the small figure on the paddleboard and the boardwalk covered in sleeping seagulls. It highlights how peaceful the day was. The flying bird really added to the image.

You know what would have been really impressive? If I was doing yoga down there on paddleboard with all those ladies WHILE flying the quadcopter to get this shot. Can you imagine? Well… that's a recipe for disaster I'm sure… I almost fell over while standing over on the nearby beach!

Why not yoga while enjoying the waters around Kitsilano Beach ... on a paddle board.

A great activity on what turned out to be one of the warmest days of the year.

Hey, long time no 'sea' everyone! I've been in school, so I haven't had much time for photography. Since it's a semester break I finally had a chance to shoot a little.

You know how difficult it is to shoot in the snow when you wear glasses, and then also try and keep the camera safe from the elements at the same time while trying to focus on your subject that's moving! Although, this pic is a bit soft, I thought it added to the painterly/ moody feel, so I thought it worked out in the end.

Here's a paddleboarder riding the waves in a snow storm on the coast of Maine.
