I am taking an awesome online class with Teesha Moore and Jane Davenport - The Mermaid Circus. We've been creating mermaids in our journals using all kinds of techniques. This is my first mixed-media face. I used inktense pencils, prismacolors, neocolor ii crayons, dylusions ink, and stencils. Learning which art supplies play together well. So inspired by this class!

I'm taking a couple of Kim Klassen's online classes, and am starting course 2B late, therefore starting at Day 40 and I will catch up with the rest later ! This photo is a sample of Kim's , and the purpose of the lesson was to transform it . I added a vignette in LR5 and applied various other adjustments. Then I couldn't resist adding some falling snow as I may not see any of the real thing here in NC !

Can't stop making these :) Another luminous metallic necklace made today!

The shell was old and fragile... so fragile that it started to crumble even when I was working on the guy's face..on the other side.. so I had to do something to hold it all together ...I pushed in some more polymer clay and fashioned a cute little bum. I know ..it looks more like a cute little baby's bum than a craggy old guy's butt...but, hey ... it's a family show....

It was a Dawn Schiller online class to do a little man in a shell... he is in the next photo....she calls them Shellfae... I am trying to put a link to the page on my blog where I talk about making him. So far this is all I can do...but, I may figure it out yet.

Prompt #2

Just in case:

Today was rather mundane & routine. Rather than the apathy I normally feel, I felt "full."

Things are finally starting to change.

Finally finished!

A combination of taking Handstitched Class from Rachel at Stitched in Color and the Aurifil wholecloth quilt challenge from BAMQG, this quilt was a fun and interesting challenge! This is the second time I've done a wholecloth quilt--the first was a panel quilt I made for my daughter. This is the first time I've made a wholecloth quilt with just a plain solid for the top. There are some process pictures in the set, but I used a projector to trace the Millennium Falcon onto the dark grey fabric using a washable Crayola marker, and then hand quilted it in light grey thread. There was so much space around the ship after I was done with it, and I struggled to think of something to quilt there. I would have liked to do some kind of dense all over pattern with dark grey thread, but couldn't think of a way to make it look good. I ended up embroidering stars. Thankfully, the back matches the thread color perfectly, and it looks great!

This one is up for sale in my shop!

Quilt stats:

Started 9/4/12, finished 11/3/12

Size: About 36" x 42"

Materials used: Kona Pepper for front, Moda Robotics stars for backing and binding, Warm & White batting, Gutermann 4507 hand quilting thread

Ok... its official. Full details are up and registration is now open on my SketchingNow site.

I am excited beyond words - I can't believe that after months and months of serious planning, developing my idea and then putting it all together...it is up! I have thought for a long time about what I would most like to do with an online class - and how could I make it so it was the closest to my weekly sketching classes. And well the SketchingNow idea is the result - a concept a week - slow paced - fresh content based on local sketching adventures as I explored my beautiful home town of Sydney.

Now that all the back-of-house stuff is up - the good stuff can start. Pulling all the core content together (it has been sitting waiting for me for months) and ... working out what parts of Sydney I will go and doing some serious cafe research. So... which comes first? Making a decision on the suburb because of it character or collating a list of the top cafes of Sydney and working around that? ....Ah! such important planning to come! No seriously, this course is NOT about sitting in cafes drinking tea - it does have an important supporting role - but SketchingNow Foundations is all about explaining my core concepts and then applying them to sketching out on the streets.

Anyway - I will be sharing my preparations here on my blog (as always!)... but today I am getting ready for a real life 2-day workshop in The Rocks starting tomorrow, doing illustration work and somehow trying to find a little time to get up to date with my daily sketching.

Oh! and a big thank you for all those that have already registered... It is very exciting to have a number of you so keen to sign up straight away like that!

Only 5 weeks to go till it starts - personally I can't wait... but I know that it will come around really soon for me.
