Warning: phishing attempt targeting Flickr users (including Pro accounts)?
Today I received what I believe to be a very well-crafted phishing email, posing as an official communication from Flickr — complete with logo, formal language, and official-looking icons.
The message contained a link to a fake website (clearly not official, in my opinion), asking for credit card information as part of a so-called “mandatory verification.”
At the end of the process, it even asked for the amount currently available on the account.
A bizarre and unheard-of request.
I am a Flickr Pro user:
I pay regularly, I moderate content, I follow the rules.
I do not accept that messages like this are being circulated, confusing users and putting them at risk.
I officially ask Flickr:
•Are you aware of this type of phishing attempt?
• Have other users already reported it?
• Could there be a breach in the system or unauthorized access?
• Shouldn’t there be a public warning sent to all users?
Those who pay, who create, who contribute — deserve protection and transparency.

Greater Manchester Police's Tameside Division is working to ensure young people don’t get tricked online.
Officers visited Duke Street Youth Centre where young people took part in a workshop around the importance of staying safe when using the internet.
The youths aged 14 to 17 took part in a chat room activity where they spoke to police community support officers (PCSOs) posing as children and had to identify the fake from the pack. It was all part of presentation on how to use the internet safely, advice on social networking sites and cyber bullying.
PCSO Christine Rogers from the Tameside West Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Protecting vulnerable people is a priority for the police and this is just one way that we can work with young people and their parents to help prevent our children coming to harm.
“The internet is a useful educational tool that children are encouraged to use in the classroom and at home. However, with websites such as Facebook becoming ever more popular there is a concern with the information that young people may give out over social networking sites. These sites are also becoming an area for interactive or cyber bullies.
“We have been encouraging young people to stay in control of the risks by following a few simple steps such as checking privacy settings, only adding trusted friends and enabling a parent to check what information they are giving out.
“I would also ask parents to check the security settings on their computers and internet connection to ensure that inappropriate sites cannot be accessed by a child.”
Karen Dale, youth forum project workers from Tameside Youth Service said: “Youth Service planned this session as part of a wider project developed with the Safeguarding Children’s Board. The overall aim was to increase awareness of the effects and implications of cyber bullying as well as providing information on the dangers if the internet as well as safety tips.
“All the young people involved were thrilled that the PCSO’s came along got involved and shared their knowledge. It was a good example of youth services working with the police, participation project and safeguarding children’s board to bring high quality support and information to Tameside Young People”.
