Police are on the lookout for a man who exposed himself to two girls Wednesday afternoon while driving pantless through Palo Alto neighborhoods.

The first case occurred on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at about 4:40 p.m., though police did not receive notification about it until almost 8:00 p.m. A 12-year-old girl was walking her dog southbound on Newell Road approaching North California Avenue. A man seated in the driver’s seat of a parked car called out to her as she passed, and asked her if she knew the location of “the community swimming pool.” She said she did not know and continued walking, but not before she noticed that the man was not wearing any pants or underwear, and was fondling his penis. The car then drove away northbound on Newell Road. The victim later told her parents about what happened, who in turn notified the police.

The second case occurred at about 5:55 p.m., with our 24-hour dispatch center receiving the call at about 6:11 p.m. A 16-year-old girl was riding her bicycle westbound on Coleridge Avenue approaching Bryant Street. A vehicle drove up behind her and pulled alongside her. She saw that the driver was not wearing any pants or underwear, and was masturbating. He did not speak to her. He drove away northbound on Bryant Street.

The victims both described the suspect as a thin white male driving a newer-model light-colored four-door sedan (alternately described as white or silver). The older victim estimated the suspect’s age as being in his twenties or thirties. On today’s date, the older victim met with a police artist, who produced the attached sketch.

Detectives are actively investigating these cases, as well as looking to see if these crimes may be connected to any others that have occurred in Palo Alto or surrounding cities. Officers have stepped up patrols in neighborhoods as a result.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984. I guess when you remove an overpass it's nice to notify people that there's nothing beyond that mound of dirt but a BIG drop.

The subways in Brooklyn are starting to roll out digital signs and audible alerts that tell when trains are coming or if there are delays. Finally.

I love the new iOS Notifications system. It's hands down better than previous iOS versions.

However...

It drives me crazy that the character truncation limits when you first get a text message on the lock screen are not enough to except a full tweet. And it's even crazier that the secondary smaller lock screen notification does not truncate the same length messages.
