During Thanksgiving, she joined the water protectors at Standing Rock. She carried the blessings of all of us at Pines as well as our donations of green superfoods.
The DAPL pipeline threatens not only the #StandingRock Nation but those down river, too. It was not necessary to cross the river, yet the pipeline route goes back and forth under the river to avoid denser populations. As the sign says, pipelines have suffered 3,300 ruptures and leaks since 2010. Running a pipeline under the water supply for millions is irresponsible.

Antonio received his first introduction to marathon racing when he and Skyler, another member of the Pines’ team, drove to Colorado Springs to support Jason at the Pikes Peak Marathon last year. That was a grueling two-day event. Jason ran up Pikes Peak two days straight and also ran down on the second day.
Jason is the manager of the bottling department at Pines. Antonio and Skyler often help Jason in bottling as well as working on harvest and other farming operations. The Founders of PINES envisioned the Wilderness Community Education Foundation (WCEF) before the company itself was formed. They saw PINES as a profit making company that would serve as a mean for accomplishing the goals of the Foundation. Those goals include supporting sustainable environmental practices and providing good nutrition, especially for the poor.
This picture is of a field the WCEF converted to native prairie. The Foundation identifies potential erodible fields on lands purchased and converts them to native prairie.
More than 700 acres of woodlands and prairie as a permanent wildlife refuge are owned and protected by the WCEF. PINES owns an additional 1,000 acres for its organic farming operations. The company brought all these lands into certified organic status within three years from the date of purchase.
Another 5,000 acres of woodland and native prairie are owned by the KU Endowment Association. Those tracts are contiguous to land owned by PINES and the WCEF. That results in one of the largest expanses of sustainable organic land in Northeastern Kansas.
A major project for the WCEF was the Kansas Riverkeeper program. More than half of its permanent endowment came from Pines, the WCEF and Pines' shareholders. Income from it will ensure a Riverkeeper in perpetuity to protect one of Kansas’ most beautiful and threatened resources.
The WCEF has depended primarily on contributions from stockholders and bequests. Since 2008, the Foundation has contributed more than $135,000 to organizations dedicated to causes that support the Foundation’s objectives.

It is good to recycle but supporting companies that don't care helps them add more wildlife-killing and planet-polluting plastic shards into our oceans and landfills. The wood is very hard and does not rot easily. It makes great fence posts. The Native Americans used the wood for making strong bows and arrows. The fruit is sometimes called "hedge apples," but you would not want to eat them. They are the size of softballs and bigger, and the fruit is bad tasting and sticky like glue. A recent poll from the Organic Trade Association found a sharp decrease in parents who say price is a key factor limiting their organic purchases. “Parents in charge of the household budget recognize the benefits of organic,” said the trade group’s Laura Batcha. “And they’re willing to pay a little more to know that they are giving their families the highest-quality and most healthy products being offered in their local store.”
