Netherley, where Buen Place used to be... very civilized!!

Arriva North West, VDL DB300, Wright Eclipse Gemini II H41/29F No 4475 MX61 AKZ, is pictured here at Queen Square Bus Station, Liverpool, working an inbound 79 service from Netherley to Liverpool ONE Bus Station. 28th January, 2012.

This Speke-based Volvo B10BLE/Wright Renown is seen here in Liverpool on a 79 from Netherley.

The plaque at the entrance reads:

" Hillsborough Oaks

96 Oak trees were planted in this wood 1996 in memory of those who lost their lives in the Hillsborough stadium tragedy of 15 April 1989."

(The woods are on the Netherley Road Liverpool). This is a very peaceful area so take a book or just sit and listen to the birds.

(This is a new format I'm trying out for recording descriptions. Recordings from hereon will be done in this format; older ones will not be converted as I don't feel like going through 5,000+ images one by one. Whether I'll stick with it, I'm not sure yet.)

While on my way to Netherley to take photos of a couple of street lamps that are on their way out, I came across this, a double-aperture PB42/1 (the technical term for a post box of this type) and the only one I've seen that was erected early on during the reign of the current Queen.

That day (and for the next few alternate Thursdays), I had Ibe Uken as my support worker and one hell of a jobsworth. Eventually, I decided enough was enough and asked not to have her again and I have a feeling that things are going to be much worse, because I've got male support from CIC and I prefer FEMALE support.

HISTORY

Pillar completed 13th September 1949 costing £15.17s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NO89/T25, and levelled to second class precision during 1950. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in September 1983.

SITE VISIT

Approached from southeast. The bottom of the windfarm track appears to have been relocated north, however good parking for a few cars has now been provided off the west side of the B979 at ~NO861908. Thereafter most of the walk was on the new windfarm road until very near the top with a short trot across the heather. The pillar is in good condition. Spider has replacement OS centre cap with raised small narrow letters. The flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 109°. Vented through NE and SW sight holes, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view from trig.
