Sweet lil "Priyanshi" Traditionally Dressed & Gracefully Dancing.

Kanjak Ashtami puja is an important ritual during the Chaitra Navratri or Vasant Navratras. It falls on the eighth day – the Ashtami day – of the nine-day Navratri festival. A young girl child (Kanjaks) is worshipped on this day in North India. In 2008, the date of Kanjak Ashtami is marked on April 12 in some regional calendars. In South India, it is marked on April 13.

On the day people invite young girls to their homes and wash their feet and tie red color thread on their wrists. A tika is applied on the girl child’s forehead and worship them as Mother Goddess. The family members take blessing from the young child by touching their feet. The children are given ‘prasad,’ gifts and some money.(Source Hindu Blog)

And this one day before Navratra , is a very big money making day for the street barbers of Mumbai who come from from far flung places to Banganga Tank at Walkeshwar.

This is Pitru Paksha Hindu All Souls Day,, appeasing the souls of departed ancestors forefathers parents , by performing religious tonsure and offering puja on the steps of the Banganga Tank..The ingredients for the puja offerings by the North Indian also known as the Bhaiyya are sold to him by the Mahrashtrians they hold the complete monopoly of this important part of the puja , that includes the wet flour , incense stick , diya , and the dry leaves ,,

The puja is performed by the pandits , simple ones colorful ones , silent ones and curious ones ,, there is mantra chanting, and the entire ritual passes of peacefully , the locals the volunteers , the political satraps see that everything is performed smoothly , and the removal of the debris from the tank on boats makeshift rafts .

This is one of the most hallowed holy place of the Hindus of Mumbai a heritage a landmark and an iconic spiritually energizing spot whatever maybe your religion.. the waters here are considered to holistically heal..mind body and soul.

After the puja once the North Indians start moving out there is a huge traffic jam everyone has a bus to catch , the share a taxis have a great day and they charge extra but it is forgotten in the rush to reach Grant Road station to take a local back home ,,

And I have shot this ritual from 2005 ,tried never missing out on this as part of my Hindu Blogs ,, sharing showcasing and documenting it all as Hope and Hindutva a Message of Universal Peace ..

Or the purpose of my photography would be self centered , meaningless if I did not shoot my neighbors faith and his religious ideology which with my own believes in harmony tolerance and living together in mutual coexistence ..
