The Chicago summit was originally planned as an "implementation summit" to follow up the 2010 summit in Lisbon. However, the group is now likely to discuss the impact of recent events, such as the Arab Spring, Libyan civil war, global financial crisis, and transition for NATO forces in Afghanistan.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is in Chicago for a weekend of discussions on Afghanistan and other foreign policy issues at the NATO Summit. Before heading down to the Summit the Prime Minister took some time to tour 1871 (a new space for digital entrepreneurs), discuss investing in the UK with business leaders and meet with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
