I was fortunate to benefit from some really murky weather amongst the hot dry days of early August.
Arriving around five in the morning, I set up at the Kit Kat Stones with a dark blue hour shot in mind, but the conditions were just a bit meh, so I opted to move on.
A while later a band of fine drizzle swept up the Burbage Valley setting up a moody backdrop for Carl Wark. As this happened the now rising sun sent an almost ethereal white glow under the low cloud base giving the whole scene a very other worldly feel.
The path ends where the light fades.
The forest stands still, waiting.
“Through the darkness of future past,
the magician longs to see —
one chance out between two worlds.”
Somewhere beyond that glow,
something hums quietly in the dark.
Boulders carpet the landscape of Kinder Scout, some of them not all evocative of anything, but certain ones such as this look like the giant eggs of some mythical creature.
Not only did I like this boulder's egg-like shape but some classic winter light was hitting the edge of the plateau, the kind of light somehow seems to make everything feel colder, a very particular but definite quality.
This is a little bit filler, but it's a picture I liked non-the-less, so enjoy!

A crisp landscape from Bagno Pogorzel captures a quiet marsh frozen in time. Patches of dry reeds punctuate the glassy surface of the water, framed by a sweeping sky painted with delicate clouds. The scene blends the rawness of wetland wilderness with the calm of winter's pause an untouched natural moment steeped in clarity and space.

"As the sand wears away from the base by the pounding rain, Uluru stands like a monument of stone, unharmed by the battering bush-storm. She turns a dark grey, the rain washes away her coating, revealing riddling enigmas. When the clouds pass and the skylights come on, Uluru unveils many magnificent waterfalls streaming from the top of her. She presents her friends with streams and billabongs, glad that the angry storm is through."

Dramatic Sky Over Rural Farmhouse by Duncan Rawlinson portrays a moment of quiet anticipation as dark clouds gather over a small, secluded farmhouse nestled amidst open fields. The interplay of light and shadow creates a moody, almost cinematic atmosphere, highlighting the stillness of rural life in contrast to the storm brewing above. This photograph evokes a sense of solitude, peace, and the raw beauty of nature just before the storm.
Aughnanure Castle, near Oughterard in County Galway, is a striking 16th century tower house built by the O’Flaherty clan. Standing on the banks of the Drimneen River, it reflects the power and independence of one of Connacht’s most influential families. The castle’s six story tower, defensive walls, and remnants of a banquet hall capture the rugged beauty and turbulent history of Gaelic Ireland.
Cave Dale Hike Pt.1:
I took my first steps into White Peak on Friday with a route that took me up Cave Dale and onto the Limestone Way for a brief period before heading back north and taking in the south face of Mam Tor and The Great Ridge for sunset.
I'd read about the stark geological differences between Dark Peak with its granite and White Peak's limestone, but still found it a shock to the system how different the terrain looked and the difference in mood.
Water seemed to flow from everywhere in Cave Dale, the path up bearing a tiny stream itself and the rock face seeping water everywhere, a result of limestone being far more porous than granite. The tops of the rock outcrops and ground surrounding them was a lush green with grass, another major difference from the oranges and pale yellows of the grasses, ferns and heather on High Peak.
A short way onto the trail and I found this lovely combination of a rock outcrop with a lone tree up top and the stone pathway sweeping through the foreground. The sky was cloudy and full of texture, welcome weather after the past few hikes in unrelenting sunshine, for the most part.
A fantastic start to the day.
Norway is a place of endless natural beauty. Incredible fjords, winding small roads, raw tunnels carved through the bedrock and so much more. These images are from summer road trips during 2024.

Image title quote by Lao Tzu, mystic philosopher of ancient China.
I've visited this region each year, and many times to Dunstanburgh Castle, an English Heritage place.
Very iconic and romantic place, hopefully this image portrays it well!
The beach at Oostende often feels cinematic, but this scene stopped me in my tracks. A solitary figure, a black bird, likely a crow, and the quiet punctuation of white surf meeting sand. There’s something surreal in the stillness, as if time has momentarily slipped sideways. The vastness of the sea, the gradient sky brooding above it all, and the almost too-perfect palette of beige, blue and grey… it’s peaceful, strange, and hauntingly ordinary. Just another day at the beach, seen through a different lens.
