Fitted everything on the board to get a rough idea of the layout, and then I thought 'why not', so I copied the entire contects of my previous mythtv experiment HD over to a new one and tried booting from it.
And it did, without much problems. Some fiddling with the network settings was required but otherwise no issues. Remarkable, as the previous machine was a backplane+PIII CPU board and this is a miniITX P4 board with a totally different chipset and components. That sure as hell saved me a lot of time!
I also added a second TV capture card so I can do picture-in-picture (useless but cool), and record two streams at the same time, or alternatively record a stream and watch live TV with full PVR options (pause, forward, etc)
The GeForce FX5200 is by no means a remarkable card but it is well supported by linux and combined with the 2.8 Ghz P4 it has enough power to play MAME and SNES9X games and xvid/divx video with maximum postprocessing without much effort.
I'll probably replace the HUGE CPU fan with a silent zalman ringtype cooler with I must say that this beastie is REALLY silent. The PSU also does what it promises (be silent) so the loudest component is actually the big HD containing the recordings.
I'm already thinking of ways to dampen that sound, shouldn't be too hard.
I might try to find a smaller PSU, and replace the fullsize DVD/CDRW with one of those slim DVD/CDRWs. Eventually I'd like to move to microITX and low-profile PVR cards but the drivers for the newers ones still have some issues.

Adam, one of the hundreds of people who use the free internet access computer located at the Santa Fe Baking Company. The breadbox computer was built and donated to the bakery by the nmglug crew. The computer was baked from scratch from fresh hardware using a breadbox as a container. The computer runs free GNU/Linux software on an tiny EPIA VIA mini-itx motherboard. Adam says he's occasionally been using the computer ever since his last PC was stolen.

Quick Shot of the finished thing. Also added a little control panel where the ashtray was, simply modified a keyboard controller PCB so I can have Play/Pause, Skip, Vol+/-, and a few other buttons, which makes life a lot easier.
Exklusiv wurde mir auf der Cebit 2009 ein wasserdichtes, komplett passiv gekühltes Demosystem im Hinterzimmer präsentiert, welches speziell für das Fujitsu-Siemens D2703-S konzipiert wurde. Das Gehäuse ist spritzwassergeschützt (IP64 Industriestandard) und weist einen wasserdichten Kabeltunnel auf. Das D2703-S Mini-ITX Mainboard wird sehr professionell und komplett passiv gekühlt.
