This mini chocolate Santa Claus is waiting for the holy evening in the candlelight. He just has to be careful that he does not get too close to the candle, otherwise the chocolate melts.

Macro Mondays: Redux 2017

Re-do of #Member'sChoice-Bokeh - 12/25

I almost did "Egg" since that's the theme that first got me interested in Macro Mondays (as seen in Explore). However, "Bokeh" seemed like a better choice for "Redux" since I did take some test shots for the Bokeh theme but didn't have time to properly explore it for it that week. Plus, my Christmas tree is still up and providing sparkly bokeh options, whereas I can shoot an egg any time during the year.

The little elf ornament, about 2 cm tall, hangs from one of two small trees I decorate each year. This tree I call my "Charlie Brown Christmas tree". I bought it 25 years ago and even then it looked a bit sad but it was all I could afford. It looks nice after I decorate and I love it very much. :-)

A cut-out lens mask turned the otherwise ordinary Christmas tree lights into the candles - a Topaz Glow filter applied to the background then gave them the neon effect. it was a shame that the slight movement of the glass angel meant I could not get the main subject pin sharp, but that's what you get when trying to take Xmas decoration shots with 2 cats around!

Ant looking for hidden treasure on a Camellia 'Yuletide' flower.

The Olympus 60mm macro lens produces some nice smooth bokeh.

This should really have been taken with flash, due to the f/8 aperture and relatively high shutter speed (the ant was moving fast) - even bright sunlight isn't enough to keep ISO down.
