Lovingly based on the excellent Rogue One concept art. There are too many influences to link here but the main ones were this and this. I have no idea how long those links will remain active...
Many of the concepts that were closest to the final movie design featured this bow-cockpit hanging below the wings and in line with the cabin. I like this shape in general but I can see why the design team moved away from it towards the dorsal cockpit above the wings and cabin. For one things, the final design seems to take closely from the H-19 Chickasaw in that regard and this stays true to the Star Wars design tenets of using existing aircraft. A front mounted cockpit is fun but it kind of gets blended from almost every other helicopter. The dorsal intake was originally going to be smaller but I could not decide how to approach the shape. I finally tried this large shape and thought it looked fantastic. One of the concepts featured a bubble gunner\'s cupula out the back but I thought it looked ugly. I kept the guns though and was going to add a cupula up top but that was replaced with an access hatch. The engine intakes were going to be just the flag/sign parts and the large wheels but then I remembered this WIP by Jake RF and its awesome use of the newish half-cones.
The cabin base is heavily modified (internally at least) off of Inthert\'s U-Wing Instructions. I actually followed them all the way through (digitally of course) and learned a TON. The build employs a number of interesting techniques and highlights the minimum-attachment methods. This would be a fun build for anyone with access to real bricks, but it should be a required build for anyone into digital Lego. It turns out that all aside from 10 or so parts, the entire thing can be built in one section in LDD (i.e. even with all of the crazy shapes, the techniques are within tolerances).
This ship does not feature any large moving sections like the movie version or like the Rebel Transport by -majortom- (also a large source of inspiration although the different sizes made it difficult to "tastefully plagerize" too many details) but still features retractable landing legs, sliding doors, aft guns, and collapsable seating. The colors were the hardest choices to make. Most decent combinations did not offer enough parts to fill gaps. I still think the yellow-on-tan is a bit low on contrast but the original dark red wasn\'t available and normal red looked garish.
Finally, these renders are not the best, I know. However, they took long enough to make so they will suffice. The cockpit interior shows why it is not a good idea to set "scratches" to 40%...
Finally (pt. 2), a big Thank You to mecabricks for helping me with scaling material issues. I had to make the 3x3 quarter-circle brick w/ bow part myself as it wasn\'t in the library of parts. It wasn\'t too difficult to model but I had required some assistance to get the materials working.

is a reimagining of the classic 6276 Eldorado Fortress. I had to rush to finish it, thus some aspects are not as well worked out as I'd like them to be. I may edit it and publish some new images sometime in the future.
A quick render I did of mimizh's model of the Millenium falcon on mecabricks, check it out here: www.mecabricks.com/en/models/VzvM19q5vJp
Lighting systems have greatly improved on Mecabricks. With transparent elements you can now increase or decrease the light intensity in the render window.
I jumped back to my Techno-Gothic console, added a few more elements and tweaked the lighting slightly. Another great feature is that you can now add dirt, fingerprint marks and scratches to your render giving it an almost more realistic look.
Made a higher res render of the Jawa Speeder with some basic lighting effects.

Well, this year's SHIPtember was quite hard for me due to lack of time and ideas. Almost 3/4 of work was done last week or something like that. So I couldn't make everything I want and ship is a bit crude and unpolished.
One of standart type drone carriers, designed to assist in construction of orbital port hubs. Ship isn't supposed to have much materials onboard, so she depends on cargo haulers during construction.

Made a render of this super awesome mech model using my custom Lego PBR Shader. This mech was made by a very talented builder. Make sure to go check out the original model on Mecabricks! (link below)
Johnny Thunder has braved the Jungles of Mexico to retrieve this mysterious Gemstone from a Mayan Pyramid. What could it be?
Just a fun little vignette I've been tinkering with for a while, trying to get some variations into the sloped surfaces and fit extra detail in along the steps.

Winter is upon us and so I've left my bricks in Wales and I'm back in the Alps, playing with Stud.io.
I'm developing a love/hate relationship with Stud.io's user interface, much of which seems to have been designed to be counter intuitive, with frequently used controls hidden in menus and esoteric ones readily available. It's also tricky to use with laptop touchpad and don't get me started on its grouping system! No doubt I'll get used to it. I thought I'd start with a simple build, to get back into the swing of things :D
Fortunately nothing has changed over on Mecabricks, making it easy for unskilled folk like me to import models and get a nice looking render.
Santa is here (albeit a bit late) to close out the year in true Victorian fashion! With a forward mountain radial engine, rear steam exhaust and personal sized Zeppelin, Sir Nicholas Kringle can journey around the world to fulfill his mission!
This was originally supposed to be done by Christmas, but I didn't finish the sleigh in time. Instead it will be my final MOC for 2020 (Barely posted in time!) More to come in 2021!
C&C Welcome!

The finished version of Chitty. I had to Photoshop in some decals mainly on the cone piece and the two 2x2 round plates in the bonnet. Everything else is a custom decal in Mecabricks.
In the Twilight hours, a pair of figures makes their way through the mountains of Nocturnus...
It's been a long time since the last time I uploaded something, yay long hours, but I've got a few things in the pipeline coming up.
An amphibious buggy, useful for traversing the sweaty swamps of Sqornshellous Zeta in search of something to sleep on.
Safety yellow!
In retrospect, could have used the clearer glass so you can see the pilot better, but I think the dark canopy works better with the yellow.
Some of y'all will probably recognize this as heavily reliant on my previous MOC, the Twists of Thrulsis, but I wanted to revisit it for the Decorate the Lego House contest without just submitting an old model. So I flipped it 90 degrees and built a new base.

I tried out the new advanced Mecabricks script that a purchased yesterday to make this render. I think it turned out fairly good, but what do you think?
LEGO build of Vægterpladsen in Aabenraa, Denmark. About 6400 bricks (only front facades and roof). Computer rendering but only existing bricks/colors were used.
"Time Masters" is a classic 1982 Sci-fi film illustrated by legendary comicbook artist Moebius.
This is the [short lived] spider-like transport buggy you see scooting along the planet surface at high speed in the opening titles—and I thought it'd be a hoot to have a go a LEGO replica.
How did I do?
Quick build I came up with while I was working on an upcoming MOC.
It was inspired by some new-ish black tiles, namely the 1x1 half-crcle and the 4x4 macaroni.
I initially designed it on Mecabricks, and the biggest challenge while building IRL was to avoid leaving fingerprints everywhere. I don't think it's visible here, but I've unfortunately failed. :(
Keen eyed observers might have noticed that Llwyngwril Systems never seem to have made anything for the M-Tron community. After long research in the dusty archives, we can now reveal this ancient image.
The photo shows an M-Tron driver standing outside his Fish rover. The reason that he is standing outside the rover is because the designers got so excited by creating its shape, they forgot to check if a person would fit inside. After this debacle, M-Tron never awarded another contract to Llwyngwril Systems again.
So this is just a touch up on the fist Bi-Wing Baron design I made a few years back. It shares the same basic base design as Harry Cane's biplane, save for the engine design, tail length and the lower wings being a tad shorter in length.
Dark red felt like a more appropriate colour for our evil treasure hunter, along with a few gold elements here and there.
For anyone asking about the Scorpion, mecabricks doesn't have the original mold in their part library. So I had to compromise and turn a crab into a scorpion
A futuristic microscale building I finished a while ago. Might make more of a city at some point.

Looking back at the set, I realized the headlights were the wrong color—should be transparent yellow. This is the corrected render. I also added a subdivision modifier to clean up the wheel rims.
I hope you won't get tired of this big Merc. I still love it though.
And the guys at Mecabricks love it too. So much that Maxao2000 (of who I don't know if he uses Flickr/similar) rendered an image of the 6x6. And it's beautiful!
NOTE: I don't own this render, it's made by Maxao. I thought I'd share it because it's really good and it's my model. But I won't take credit for the render.
Thanks to Maxao, and Mecabricks of course!
My Lego rendition of one of the most famous dinosaurs.
I had the idea for the back armour, made with 2x2 dished attached with Mixel joints, several months ago, but didn't really know how to do it.
It's only in May, inspired by the then-imminent release of Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom, that I began to actually build it, starting with the body.
I've built the tail quite easily, but it was more difficult to get the head and the limbs right.
I was done by early June, but I had to wait a bit to order the parts because the MOC contains several of the new 1x1x1 brackets, which weren't immediately available on Bricklink.
The model features 15 points of articulations for the head, the tail, and the limbs.
For those who would like to build it, or those who would like to know how many Mixel joints are used (hint : a lot) you can check the model on Mecabricks. It contains several teal parts : you don't have to actually use teal, it's for parts that are concealed in the finished model, so you can use whatever colour you want.
When Biff was done taking over the Earth, AmaTron had all the Fulfilment tools it needed to take over the whole Galaxy!

I like the Screw Tank rover I posted yesterday, but the headcanon idea of an 'Amatron' subtheme only came to me in late in the build.
Now I've had the chance to really flesh out the subtheme.

Thanks as ever go to Peter Reid's amazing [and evergreen] Turtle Chassis design :)

Update: I got ChatGPT to write a little story vignette based on the rough theme idea: It totally owned it!
"In the distant future, humanity had expanded its reach beyond Earth and into the stars. The most powerful corporation in the galaxy was AmaTron, a company that had gained its dominance by monopolizing domestic trade on every planet it had touched. With its colossal distribution network run from fulfillment ships in orbit, AmaTron's reach was unparalleled.
At the heart of AmaTron was its boss, Biff Mentos. He had risen to power by taking over Earth first, using his cunning and ruthless business tactics to cement his position as the head of the corporation. With Biff at the helm, AmaTron's distribution system became more efficient, more streamlined, and more profitable.
The AmaTron delivery staff were the backbone of the corporation's success. They used small screw tanks, jet-vans, and robot turtles to deliver packages of cheap, low-grade goods to the people on every planet. But despite the nature of their cargo, the delivery staff always wore a cheery smile, which mirrored AmaTron's logo – a swooshy 'smile' shape modelled on the exhaust trail their ever-present delivery ships.
As AmaTron's reach continued to expand, its logo and smiley-faced delivery staff became a ubiquitous sight across the galaxy. But for all its power and wealth, there were whispers of dissent among the people, who chafed at AmaTron's iron grip on their lives.
Some spoke of rebellion, of taking down the corporation that had swallowed the galaxy whole. But for now, AmaTron remained firmly in control, its fulfillment ships orbiting high above each planet, a constant reminder of the power it wielded over the lives of billions."

The theme was "Spheres", so I initially wanted to build a "militarized" version of last year's Ginkgo. I wanted the legs to be a bit different, so I came up with an assembly to attach three legs and not four.
When I turned the whole thing upside down, I realized it looked like BB-8, so I thought I could try to do an "evil" version of BB-8 with big guns, a bit like BT-1.
I also wanted it to wield a lightsaber in one hand, but eventually scrapped the idea. However, since the model had this ridiculously big arm, I decided to give it a wheel to make it even more silly (and to prevent the hands from touching the ground).
I ultimately decided to get rid of the guns, give it two proper arms and turn the thing into a delivery robot (you would store goods in its body and it could carry other things in its hands).
My first prototype (that has initially been built with physical bricks) is visible in the background, on the left. I felt the colours were a bit boring and since I didn't have enough dishes to build a more colourful version, I've rebuilt it on Mecabricks. That allowed me to try different colour schemes (including a direct reference to BB-8 himself) which can, I believe, all be build with physical parts.
If you want to try to build one yourself, check the 3D model here.
Encounter on Hypori (2003 style)
Ah, the first appearance of General Grievous. Back when he was an unstoppable jedi killer.
Sadly mecabricks doesn't have the parts for Grievous, so this merged pieces compromise design was made instead. They also didn't have Shaak TI's headdress piece either.
Hot rodding became a big game shortly after the original Sled-series by Vapid was introduced. However, it took some time for the rodders' scene to notice a vast potential of modifying 10-year old Sledgehammers.
One of the most popular Sled conversions was usually based upon Tudor production model with some extensive modifications, such as shortened wheelbase, slightly chopped roof, new custom-made rear end in order to incorporate new rear axis with limited slip differential and bigger tires. Either stroked Vapid V8 or then-new FlameMight Schyster V8 were a popular choice for these vehicles, often supercharged. "Exclusive" name was retroactively given to them by fans to associate it with the actual Sled-series trims (Elemental, Executive and Excelsior).
Black and purple - Vapid Exclusive Fastback, basic modification of Sledgehammer Tudor with stroked twin-carburetor Vapid V8.
Red and black - Vapid Exclusive "Black Betty", a custom-made Fastback, incorporates modified front end and new paintjob. Powertrain - supercharged FlameMight Schyster V8 engine with external blower.
Azure and white - Vapid Exclusive "Old Blood 'n' Guts", modern hot rod project based on 1949 Powersleigh pickup truck. While cab itself and wooden cargo area were completely overhauled to fit the new wheelbase, engine remains the very same which was installed on the factory - Vapid V8, rebuilt with new reinforced parts and supercharger, hence the project name.
A cozy lake house in the rain inspired by a render by Rodrigo Mila. House about 2100 bricks, forest and water about 8500 bricks. Computer rendering but only existing bricks/colors were used. Reference image.
Most pilots would describe flying a C0034-S2 as similar to making a Rutenbahn Sandwhich with only your toes, while blindfolded and listening to Askreeen War Songs at 100 decibels. Were you to ask any of those pilots if they could name one still flying they would laugh in your face and tell you to joke around with some other sorry sod.
The C0034 was designed as a lightweight cargo jet with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. The model was used for several years but never gained much appreciation as it was outclassed in nearly every regard by the more advanced C0102. During the years of the Raf Colony\'s expansion, the need for a small inter-planetary cargo shuttle inspired a few brilliant engineers (though early test pilots had other adjectives to describe them) ventured to retrofit the C0034 with two linear aerospike engines and maneuvering thrusters. The result was nothing less than abominabol and the engineers were promptly sacked.
The C0034-S was deemed unflightworthy and the project was sidelined for another decade until a new set of brilliant engineers decided to go out for drinks after work, got absolutley hammered and figured, why not just remove half of the internal structure and see what happens? The result, the C0034-S2, was light enough to fly but could only carry enough fuel for a few AU of travel, shelving it squarely in the disdainful categorey of \'rockhopper\'. Even worse, the ship was once-again outclassed (who are we kidding, it has never been anything else) as the VTOL system used air-breathing jet engines. Without an oxygenated atmosphere, hard landings were the only option.
Of course, an ultra-cheep rockhopper is the perfect workhorse of a Hibernia prospector! The Isadora has been around for decades and her crew insitsts she isn\'t going anywhere (although some joke that that’s because she can’t fly).
-----------
Wowowow this build drained me. It took effort spread over all 30 days of my given month. She\'s nearly 8000 pieces with most of those going to the internal structure. I did not post any WIP pics over the month as I honestly never thought I would finish. I may post my sketches now.
The full model is available here. I don\'t have time to make more renders so feel free to explore the boat yourself! (Also, unlike my usual, only the VISIBLE parts are color-checked against Bricklink. Timing was tight.)
Finally, a huge thank you to -majortom- for test-building the working landing gear for this beast and giving me the confidence to move forward with the project!
I'm thinking that for Febrovery 2021 I might set myself the challenge of exclusively using the finest, best, most superb tyres that Lego ever produced, the 4288 Balloon Tyre! I realise that other builders might disagree with my opinion :D
