No matter how precise the manufacture of a mechanical instrument, proper servicing and regular use is necessary to keep it running smoothly. This is certainly the case with my vintage Leica IIf from 1952.
It is more than likely that this old camera has not been used to take photographs in decades. So what could go wrong?
Recently our fully mechanical Dugena clock manufactured in East Germany in 1960 simply stopped working. It is now undergoing a proper service. It appears the problem is simply one of lubrication. Over time the lubricants wear out and need to be replaced. Mechanically the clock is fine.
There are two problems with the camera that you can see in these samples: (1) One of the shutter curtains appears to be closing fractionally late and shows up "ghosting" in the sky. (2) Those little spots of light on the dark wood panels are telltale signs of pinholes that have formed in the cloth shutter curtains allowing light leaks onto the negative.
Just testing - treated myself to a new lens prior to going away - so tried a long distance shot hand-held. Quite pleased with the result.....but do the missing fingers really matter here?
I think the thing I like most about going out with my camera to hunt for wildlife, is that you never see what you expect you'll see.
Heading down to Cape May yesterday morning, I anticipated getting some decent pictures of snowy egrets and Great White herons.....maybe a few ducks or glossy ibises.
I didn't see any one of those birds.
As a matter of fact, most of the bird action was back in the wooded area around the lighthouse, not the ponds.
I was simply thrilled to spot and photograph my 1st Blue Bunting!
What a gorgeous little bird!
LOL.....it's funny when I see a bird I haven't seen before.
Even if it's fairly common, and I know that many other people have seen it plenty of times, I always react like I've just made the most amazing discovery! 8-))
A rich habitat of particulate matter "thriving" on and near a clay pot. An amazing hidden world that I discovered when I lifted up another clay pot that was nested on top of it.
Some consider the circle a magical symbol. The perfect circle has no beginning and no end. You could say it unifies spirit and matter. The circle is a symbol of equality. Think of King Arthur's Round Table. The Dalai Lama has a circular Council. None of this is very scientific, just some rambling thoughts on the mystical power of the circle.

A work in progress. On Monday I introduced myself to ICY and SOT who are stencil artists from Tabriz, Iran now living in NYC. These 2 brothers contribute to both Iranian and international art culture through incredible stencil work that depicts human rights, ecological justice, and social and political issues. Really interesting young men whose work has appeared globally. They use public art to envision a world free of borders, war and GUN VIOLENCE. I found them working on this piece on the corner of Leeland Street at St. Emanuel, close to downtown Houston. They hope to complete this “Black Lives Matter” mural today, and it part of the Houston HUE Mural Festival.

I think this is a fitting quote for everything our country is going through right now! This mural can be found on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh.

No matter how much you try to obtain variety and diversity in life, at some point, there is always a kind of routine monotony spreading around. As it consists of the same processes, tasks, and people, excitement all goes flat little by little.
Looking for variations to bland everyday life can spice up unexceptional experiences. Such an escape from the misery of the constant boring repetition offers the possibility to rediscover yourself. And so, a little more contrast can suddenly create a whole new and exciting perception.
It's the photographers LAW!
No matter what, reflections like this HAVE to be photographed.
Don't they?

… one month yes, and one no, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina sends me on a three-day mission (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Sant'Anna…In my spare time, free from work commitments, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs that I present here were all taken in the months of this year 2023; I made various photos according to the dictates of street photography (or street photography), I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand, very willing to let themselves be photographed (perhaps it will be ... that the people of the island are open-minded, eager and used to to communicate with strangers..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work; all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except for two taken in the port of Milazzo, the departure and arrival point of the hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands. I met (and photographed) the sweet lady, very good and appreciated American artist, Mrs Janette Little (photographed together with her affable and very nice husband, of Aeolian origins); of the talented artist mrs Janette in addition to her portrait I propose two of her works, I had noticed them some time ago, I had wanted to bring some photos of these works with me, now I propose them in black and white because this is a monochrome series, I note however that the originals are in color, for those wishing to see his works, I add the link to his web site below.

Buona giornata
