This truly is a "hobby" kit. A seriously spec-ed camera with high quality lenses but at a very bargain basement price. If I am shooting pictures for "serious" reasons, such as the wedding we just shot, I use the AF lenses for their speed and accuracy. Also these lenses are so old they do not allow auto exposure either, they must be metered manually (shades of the K1000).
Matt now has the K10D with the 28 and 50 shown here as well as a Rikenon 135mm f2.8. He used it alot until the iPhone came along.

some fun dropping a little tomato in water.
Used "open flash" technique: in a dark room, bulb pose and manually triggerd the flash while dropping the tomato.
This hopefully is a video to aid those that are having a few issues with using Manual focus with the SX40 and other Canon Powershot cameras. As people on these Canon groups know I bang on that it is the best way to get macro shots esp and hopefully this goes some way to help to understand how to use it. Sorry about the Image Quality - there isn't much depth of field with a Nikkor Micro AF 105 mm @ F5.6 so close up ! .
The Flash was bounced off the ceiling at a 60 degree angle .

My friend John D., one of the plant's Senior Inspectors, uses a magnifier to examine the palm of his hand.
This wasn't at John's desk. It belonged to our mutual colleague and friend Gerald L. John was simply sitting there to visit with me a bit. During the conversation he noticed that Gerald had a combo paperweight/magnifier on his desk. John picked it up during the course of our discussion and then began to simultaneously examine his hand. The scene seemed funny to me so I quickly snapped a photo.
