Intel PRO 100 Intelligent Server Adapter with Intel i960.
This is a rare Network-Card with a dedicated I/O-Processor - a part of the I2O System.
Intelligent Input/Output (I2O) is a defunct computer input/output (I/O) specification. I2O emerged from Intel in the mid 1990s with the publication of the I2O specification in 1996 by the Intelligent I/O Special Interest Group. I2O was originally designed to make use of the Intel i960 microprocessor as the I/O offload engine, bringing channel I/O to the PC.
For more info about I2O look at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I2O

This is a macro photography of the innards from a Siemens Nixdorf Science Pro D6 desktop computer case, at least 10 years old. You see an intel motherboard with a Slot 1 connector for the CPU. Well, and you see that the computer is equipped with about 256MB SDRAMs. All that hardware was electronic waste at my school, so I've saved that from being trashed.
But the point is: This is an ugly Intel proprietary implementation of the Slot 1 which doesn't allow co existence with the competitior AMD and their "Slot 1" replica "Slot A", because these capacitors don't allow CPUs like my Athlon k7 being mounted while Intel CPUs can, as you can see at this comparison.
Consisting of two prints of the tiny PCBs inside a Sega Megadrive. This one is the PCB that carries the headphone socket. They were connected to the mainboard by ribbon cables.
New for '91.
Four-colour silkscreen onto Somerset satin.
This is the new mainboard, BeagleBoard. (rev C2). It is a complete single-board computer, 500MHZ ARM processor, 256M memory, SD(HC) card for storage and only 3x3 inches. It needs no extra cooling which helps. TV-out via HDMI (DVI) and S-Video, although I decided only to bring out the HDMI socket to minimise the modding required on the Spectrum case. I've added an 8GB SDHC card for storage, but it can take any size (I think 32GB is the maximum SDHC card available just now). It won't run Crysis, but it's good enough for a bit of web surfing, email and 8-bit emulation.
Back to this stuff again - this will be the main circuit board for my wife's nixie clock. It will hold the microcontroller, the real-time clock chip and backup battery, and the high-voltage power supply for the tubes.
What you see here are the four steps of preparing the board. Upper left, the bare copper board with the design for the bottom side of the board ironed on. Laminated on, really, since I use a laminator instead of an iron, but "ironed on" sounds better and reminds me of those little patches you used to get in cereal boxes. Upper right, the board after being etched (so the top layer now shows through). Lower left, the Lovely Shiny Copper phase after the toner has been scrubbed off. Lower right, tinplated and ready for drilling and cutting.
This time I tried a different circuit board layout program - Cadsoft's Eagle (free version). It's nice, though its interface is weird and it is limited in the size of board it lets you make. The limitation was not so strict I couldn't get this one done, though. Yay!
I had been using ExpressPCB's layout software, which is slick and unlimited in board size, but Eagle has two advantages: one, it can do automatic trace routing, and two, it isn't specifically designed to not let you make your own boards so it's much easier to get actual-size board imagery from it. These two things probably saved me a week of hobby time on this project even though I had to learn a whole new software package.
The autorouting really is nifty - you lay out your circuit as a schematic diagram, then you can create a board from that. The board initially looks like a blank rectangle with all the parts sitting next to it, the electrical connections in place but represented as straight lines so they all cross over each other. You lay the parts out on the board in what you guess is a good arrangement, subject to requirements like needing the power connector to be in a certain place and so on. Then you invoke the autorouter, which figures out how to make all the connections so that they get where they need to go and don't touch one another. This is pretty impressive - it's a low-level Artificial Intelligence problem, akin to (say) coming up with a delivery itinerary for several dozen pizza boys bringing pizzas to a bunch of different houses simultaneously, so that they reach everywhere in the shortest amount of time possible and without crossing each other's paths. As an AI researcher, I have enough professional egotism to think I could write a better one - but since they've saved me the trouble, I'm happy enough to use theirs.
Even better, you can tweak the autorouter's behavior to make its designs friendly to homebrew circuit board production. I attempted that for this board and I think it'll work. I need some practice before the boards I make are elegant - this one has some signals traveling a lot further than they really need to, but it should all work.
I added the hatch-filled areas in Paint Shop Pro as a postprocessing step. I wanted to save etchant - which you can do by filling the big blank areas. At the same time, I didn't want to run my printer out of toner, so I used a hatch fill instead of a solid fill. It seems to have struck a good balance.
Diamond Viper V550 with Nvidia Riva TNT.
PCI Interface, 16MB SDRAM, first generation of Nvidia chips.
Relase Date: 1998
The RIVA TNT, codenamed NV4, is a 2D, video, and 3D graphics accelerator chip for PCs that was manufactured by Nvidia. The TNT was designed as a follow up to the RIVA 128 and a response to 3Dfx's introduction of the Voodoo2. It added a second pixel pipeline, practically doubling rendering speed, and used considerably faster memory. Unlike the Voodoo2 (but like the slower Matrox G200) it also added support for a 32-bit (truecolor) pixel format, 24-bit Z-buffer in 3D mode, an 8-bit stencil buffer and support for 1024×1024 pixels textures. Improved texture filtering techniques, partially assisted by newly added trilinear filtering, dramatically improved image quality compared to the TNT's predecessor. It also added support for up to 16 MiB of SDR SDRAM. TNT was a single chip solution.

Constructed power distrubution board. We take in whatever the Spectrum PSU feeds in from the power socket, feed it to the regulator and take 2 taps from the 5V line; one for the new mainboard and one to power the 4-port hub. (later I added a third tap to power the internal 2-port hub for reliability)
Disclaimer : I'm not responsible for any mess that you might do if you follow this tutorial...
As a matter in fact, the connecting ribbons are really fragile. Especially the one connecting the LCD to the mainboard. On the 3rd time I opened it, it broke...So pay extra attention to it

The hardware was defective, so I put it to good use.
2009 digital. Pioneer DVD/RW 2008. ASUS mainboard with 8x graphic used primarily for recreation. Stream local TV and power digital audio from Media library on SATA 160gb Seagate. Also holds copy of data archive. But really just plays music on a regular basis. Digital sound.
At one time I streamed the digital audio across and through an analog sound system, the conversion seeming to be setting itself automatically via RCA connectors. And so I was somewhat overwhelmed, somewhat full of myself, when I managed to record from cassette tape to my PC hard drive with good quality results. I still have the tracks on the HDD. Next was to be from vinyl to hard drive - I have the conversion software loaded on the PC. Then the amp just turned its nose up at the computer emitting electrical hum whenever the connectors came near. Just didn't want to know anymore. I've hooked an IC board to the PC sound card that will convert for connection by coax or optic, but have had no time to take things any further. Digital is okay but the quality sound gear that I have is all analog.
Edit Audio problem now solved.-- input digital catalog - transfer - output analog mix.
Enables streaming of audio throughout house. Large catalog constantly growing has shown no sign of slowing down. Stream 24/7 if want with filters and controls for audio output in each room. Playing Uncle Tupelo at the mo. Such wonderful is life.
Work to do -- still have make use of (channel audio through) the coax connection.
Turtle Beach MultiSound Tahiti Soundcard
ISA Interface, one of the first generation of Sound-Cards.
Relase Date: 1991/1992
Turtle Beach introduced their revolutionary new sound hardware called MultiSound at COMDEX/Spring '91 which took place in Atlanta, GA on the 20th to 23rd of May 1991. The card hit the market in December of 1991 with a list price of 995 USD, though it was reduced to more affordable 600 USD by December of 1992 to compete better with Creative SoundBlaster 16 (350 USD for the ASP version) and alikes. In a matter of fact, MultiSound was a real engineering masterpiece aimed at sound professionals. It combined hardware advantages of the 56K system with much lower manufacturing costs and additional features, though it supported analogue inputs and outputs only. Unlike all other sound cards for the ISA bus, it didn't utilise DMA channels because the Hurricane architecture it was built upon required only a single IRQ, an I/O port and a 32Kb window in upper memory. So, this 4-layer board 34 centimetres long was populated by a whole lot of fine silicon hardware:

The internals of our main Virtualisation Platform for hosting Hack42 hackerspace infrastructure. Our (mostly donated) hardware needed some adaptations, such as a custom hard drive cage, built from Meccano and some modifications to the SATA power cables, as the HP xw6600 Workstation wasn't equipped to hold the six harddisks.

3D crossview picture with the 2 cameras vertical.
This macro closeup picture is the result of a falling waterdrop and a few objects together with waterfigures. The waterfigures are a result from an special type wave on a speaker, the correct amplitude and frequency and form of the wave. This form is a digital signal into the flash of my hardware controller. Cameras are prefect synchronized in spite of that they are different types. See the setup.

Model of the year 2011 Nominee Eunice: .Move over Niomi Campbell!..Eunice was originally scouted aged 15 by select models while in London for the summer visiting family. As a bit of a tom boy Eunice knew nothing of fashion and make up. This was the main reason that she did not start modeling until several years later. For Eunice, modeling at all was a dream so far away it took her years to even believe it was true. Then another to admit it in public! Growing up in Edinburgh she was extremely self conscious about her dark skin and curly Afro hair. Especially being the only girl of her complexion from nursery until she reached her final year of university. Her studies took her from her home country of Scotland to England and America and while on her travels she was scouted again by Whilimena and later for Britian’s Next Top model. When she arrived back to Scotland she decided to give it a try and was signed to the local top agency. Since then she has worked all over the world including UK, Japan, U.S.A., Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Poland, Germany, UAE fashion weeks, as well as appearing in campaigns and editorials. Much of her time is spent fund raising for numerous charities including Children’s Hospice Scotland. Over the years Eunice has been signed with several top agencies including Mainboard and Viva, (who represent Agynees Deyn), as well as AMQ, Ford, IMM Dusseldorf, MC2 and Mega (with girls such as Alek Wek). She has shot and appeared in some of the most prolific and inspirational publications as Dazed & Confused, Tank Magazine, ID, London Fashion Week Daily, Luire Magazine Japan, New York Magazine, Bahrain Confidential the cult classic WAD Magazine in Paris. She has graced the catwalks and worked with clients such as Christopher Kane, JJ Noki, Mulberry, New Look, Top Shop, Vivien Westwood, Jill Saunder, Jacob Kimmie, Harris Tweed, Henry Holland, Gok Wan, Myleen Klass, Erin O’conner and Gio Pomadoro. As if Eunice is not working hard enough, she has also started to get into acting with a featured role alongside Scotland’s very own Gary Lewis who has starred in ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘The Escapist’, ‘Shallow Grave’ and ‘Billy Elliot’. She is our very own Niomi Campbell!.. The upcoming nomination for The Scottish Fashion Awards 2011 has some of the most successful icons in the world in a variety of different categories who work in fashion, film and the creative industry including Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, Gerard Butler, Tilda Swinton, Marc Psarlois, ROX, Daks and Iona Crawford. .
