Botanical Gardens Puerto de La Cruz
23/04/2017
It was a hot day in Tenerife. After a scorching morning on the beach, walking up and down handing out questionnaires to tourists, the ecotourism team headed to the botanical gardens. We continued our research in the shade of the Coussapoa Dealbata, amongst the bromeliads, aroids, and aloes. It wasn’t long before we realised that the busload of tourists that unloaded at the gardens were in fact all German, meaning that we could only manage a handful of conversations with those who spoke enough English. What better use of the time than to stop and have a photoshoot? This is a vital lesson in Fieldwork: if fieldwork gives you lemons, make lemonade.
So this is it. Our time in Japan has come to an end. We've actually been in the US for two weeks but I've been loath to post anything because it's sad.
For those of you who only follow our flickr account and don't know the situation, our time in Japan was only for 3 years which has now finished. We're back in California area and I'm currently looking for a new job and I expect that we'll either settle in the LA or SF areas. I'm sure I'll post more updates as we figure out where our life will take us, but for now that's up in the air.
It was depressing to say good bye to our friends and our home for the past three years, never to return to the same situation and location in all probability. Kumamoto/Ozu has been a fantastic place to live and work and raise kids. We're going to miss it very much. I think we already miss it a lot. It was very hard to say goodbye.
To all our friends in Japan, thank you. It's been an amazing wonderland experience and we're sad to return to America.
(This picture is of all the people who showed up at the airport at 10am on a weekday to see us off.)
