Conductance, or current-to-voltage ratio, simulation for a curved, semiconducting nanoribbon in magnetic fields. The magnetic field magnitude is 4.5 tesla, while its direction is varied as shown by the arrows. There is a charge current flowing due to the small voltage difference between the two ends of the nanoribbon, with the charge density indicated by the color (light denotes high and dark denotes low). The relative value of the conductance is shown by a VU meter-style indicator. The curved nanoribbon is an example of a novel class of curved electronic devices. Nanoribbon’s curvature, corresponding to the opaque part of the torus, is an additional degree of freedom for manipulating the conductance properties and can be used for sensing and information processing applications. Computer simulations are an important step in understanding the way in which curved electronic devices work and in optimizing their geometry and material properties.
