The Abbey of St. Jean des Vignes was a monastery of Augustinian canons in Soissons, France, southwest of the city center. Only ruins remain, of which the west facade remains one of the more outstanding examples of architecture in the town. It is a listed historic monument.

The abbey was founded on St. John's hill in 1076 by Hughes Le Blanc as a community of Augustinian canons.

Initially built in Romanesque style, the initial buildings were replaced at the end of the 12th century by those extant today. The west facade was begun in the 12th century, but not finished until the 16th. The refectory and cellar date from the 13th century, parts of the cloisters from the end of the 13th century, while other parts are from the 16th century, as is the abbot's lodging.

When the abbey was suppressed during the French Revolution the premises were put to use for military purposes, and an arsenal was added.

The site was acquired by the town of Soissons in the 1970s and the remaining buildings are now occupied by educational and heritage-related organizations.

The Saarpolygon is a memorial to the coal mining in the Saar region, which finally ended in June 2012. The large accessible sculpture stands on the Duhamel slagheap in Ensdorf, which rises about 150 metres above the surrounding Saartal valley.

The walkable monument is about 30 metres high. The 35-metre-long transverse section is accessed from both sides by 132 steps at a height of 25 metres. The viewing platform weighs around 60 tons. The Saarpolygon is designed in such a way that it has a different shape from each direction: rectangular archway, triangle standing on the top or base, cross with horizontal line. In the ground plan it has the shape of a Z.

147 designs were submitted in the competition of ideas for the artistic implementation - the winner was the Berlin architect duo Katja Pfeiffer and Oliver Sachse.

Their design of a large walk-in sculpture, which "as a symbol of change in an abstract language of form traces a variety of mining motifs", is intended to form a gateway into the future in the eyes of the beholder. The formal language of the puristic steel grid construction is intended to express the inseparability of origin and future in the country and to show the classic connection of coal, steel and energy in Saarland.

On Saturday I went over to Mount Edgcumbe for Plymouth Arts Centre's outdoor cinema showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It had been a horrible day all day, and I was fully prepared to sit in the wind and rain to watch the film (yes I'm bonkers). I Decided to take my camera with me and got this shot of Royal William Yard from the ferry across to Mount Edgcumbe.

Yueh Hai Ching Temple is a Chinese temple in Singapore.

The current structure of this shrine dates back to 1850 and was substantially renovated in 1895. Since then, it has undergone several restorations.

The temple exemplifies a Taoist temple in traditional Chinese architecture.

The roofs of the temple feature highly unusual ornaments, consisting of intricate arrangements of one- and two-story mini-structures and human figurines. These elements are arranged to depict clusters of buildings within a Chinese town.

In this temple, not only is the ridge densely adorned with dragons and miniature models of dwellings, but the copings, gable ends, and hips are also embellished with various structures, including pagodas, sheds, dwellings, and niches. Human figurines are displayed throughout, depicting scenes from Chinese operas that illustrate the courageous and meritorious deeds of gods and ancient heroes from Chinese legend.

AT THE LANDMARK

Inside the Oslo Town Hall

Oslo City Hall is a landmark building in Oslo and Norway.

The architects of the building, Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson had a clear idea of what they wanted the building to represent, and artists such as Edvard Munch, Henrik Sørensen, Alf Rolfsen and Per Krogh have helped to underpin the architects' vision.

The main hall was decorated by two famous Norwegian artists: Henrik Sørensen and Alf Rolfsen.

In one of the frescoes, the pillars of Norwegian identity are represented—fishing, forestry, and industry—flanked on either end by explorer Fridtjof Nansen and playwright Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, both of whom won Nobel prizes.

The mural on the east side of the wall displays the history of the Nazi occupation
