Performers in The Venus Labyrinth, a performance-installation in which 28 rooms, each representing one of the 28 known areas of the human brain, are occupied by one woman. The audience member enters the labyrinth alone and then, dependent on which object they choose from a selection before them, embarks upon a completely unique journey, travelling deeper into the building, but also deeper into their own mind and memories than they may have been before.
It comes to the Arches on 20 - 25 July 2010.

This is an important piece for me. I first experienced a version of it at the Interim Art gallery in London in 1991 (then on Dering Street). It was one of the first pieces of art that really excited me with the potential that it demonstrated for the breadth of art practice that I had not really appreciated till then. It proved to be a catalytic piece for my own thinking and practice. This photo shows the artist Wang Yuyang negotiating the Labyrinth.
A man from San Francisco owns this land on the mesa and comes around a few months a year to make designs in the sand. Most of the rocks are travertine scraps from the quarry nearby.

A young woman stands on an infinite pier, holding a frame that endlessly repeats her own image, like a visual mantra of introspection. A translucent maze overlays the scene, symbolizing the winding paths of the mind, the loops of memory, and the journey of identity.
Like a mantra whispered in meditation, the repetition becomes a ritual — a contemplative echo guiding us inward. Between serene surface and inner complexity, the image blurs the line between reality and illusion, inviting reflection on who we truly are.

The Labyrinth is an ancient symbol meant to cement the relationship between the natural world and art with just one path to the center of the maze and one path of return. The sidewalk on which it was painted is a crossroads of the community garden, the Time Landscape, and the massive sculpture entitled “Sylvette” by Pablo Picasso. Entering the Seed Labyrinth, one slows down taking notice of nature in this busy city.

Amy, the owner of Tecopa Hot Springs Resort, built this labyrinth above the grounds after "asking each rock permission to move it." It's a cool spot that provides extracurricular activities outside of using the hot springs and hiking around nearby Death Valley.
