WASHINGTON DC, USA -- Sunday, May 15th, 2016. Hundreds of climate activists protest at a rally organized by the Break Free movement against fossil fuel projects. Demonstrators went to the streets at the nation's capital to protest in front of the White House, calling on the decision makers in Washington DC to support the transition to renewable energy instead of coal, oil and gas energy.
Break Free 2016 is a week of coordinated direct actions that target the most dangerous fossil fuel projects, in an effort to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate a just transition to 100% renewable energy. Thousands of people all over the planet are putting their bodies on the line to send a message to polluters and politicians that we need to break free from fossil fuels now.

Zwei Tage vor der ersten Sitzung der Kohle-Kommission haben am 24. Juni 2018 mehrere Tausend Menschen in Berlin für den Kohleausstieg und echten Klimaschutz demonstriert. On May 25, 2022 more than 100 New Yorkers on the frontlines of the climate crisis, including faith leaders and youth, held a protest outside BlackRock Headquarters in Manhattan, where their annual shareholders’ meeting took place. Participants and speakers at this event demanded that BlackRock exclude companies expanding fossil fuel production from its active and passive funds. On April 26, 2023 six climate activists were arrested for blocking the entrance at the headquarters of global investment company KKR & Co. Inc., also known as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. in Manhattan, at a protest that shut down the buildingâs front entrance. Over a hundred New Yorkers convened at a public garden inside Trump Tower on May 9, 2017; to host a teach-in about fossil fuel divestment and urge New York City to show climate leadership in the face of Trump’s attack on climate change and the Paris Agreement. The teach-in, part of a global week of divestment action, took particular aim at New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer. Stringer oversees the city’s $175 billion pension fund portfolio and faces mounting pressure to divest from fossil fuels and pipelines.

SEATTLE, WA-- On Friday, September 16, 2016, hundreds of people marched through downtown Seattle in solidarity with the Indigenous water protectors stopping construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. This event was part of a #NoDAPL week of actions in support of the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota.
Thousands of people from over 200 Native Nations have gathered at Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. If built, the Pipeline would carry crude oil upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Construction of the pipeline has already begun in some areas and has damaged sacred sites.
