Wedding Beetle is the name of one of the most unusual conversions in the eventful and long history of the VW Beetle. The Luftikus was created in the late 1960s to attract new customers to a store in Mexico. The vehicle actually attracted a lot of attention, which is why a small series was even commissioned.

 

Rafael Esparza-Prieot, a blacksmith from Mexico City, built the first wedding beetle in 1968. The employee of a spare parts store was supposed to create a special Beetle with which his boss wanted to attract new customers. Perhaps not entirely by chance, Esparza-Prieot came up with the idea of ​​shaping an airy body made of white lacquered wrought iron with floral patterns and many decorative flourishes during the time of the flower power movement.

 

Managers at the VW plant in Puebla, which was under construction at the time, became aware of the extraordinary Beetle and ordered two more Esparza Prieto Beetles in the run-up to the 1968 Olympic Games. These were not just pure show products, they were also drivable with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. Thanks to public appearances at the Olympic Games, the conversions, which are reminiscent of Cinderella's wedding carriage, also gained international popularity. Given the enthusiasm, VW commissioned 20 more wedding beetles to be exhibited at dealers around the world.

 

Esparza-Prieto later emigrated to California and built two more copies there on their own. There should be a total of 23 wedding beetles with his blacksmithing. There are also a large number of replicas, some with different colors and patterns. Today, the few original wedding beetles are coveted collector's items, which, due to their very limited suitability for everyday use, are rarely seen. A windshield or sheet metal to protect the occupants is missing. You can drive the car on the road, it is roadworthy.

Der Gefleckte Schmalbock (Rutpela maculata, früher Strangalia maculata) ist ein Käfer aus der Familie der Bockkäfer.Gefleckte Schmalböcke werden 14 bis 20 Millimeter lang.

Man sieht die tagaktiven Tiere häufig auf Doldenblüten sitzen. Sie ernähren sich neben dem Nektar auch von den Pollen und Staubgefäßen. Durch Aneinanderreiben von Hinterbeinen und Flügeldecken ist der Käfer in der Lage, zirpende Geräusche zu erzeugen. Die Larven bohren sich tief in alte und morsche Bäume und Sträucher (zum Beispiel Buchen, Birken, Eichen oder Weißdorne, selten auch in Nadelholz) und können so lange Gänge erzeugen. Nach mehreren Häutungen verpuppt sich die Larve in einem der Gänge, so dass der frisch geschlüpfte Käfer zunächst den Weg nach draußen finden muss. Die Käfer können von Juni bis August angetroffen werden.
