The Wheel in Laxey used to pump the water from the mines. Started in 1854. Standing on the observation platform above the wheel, the thing that strikes you is the quiet.

This fellow was in a big hurry to get, well, somewhere.

The Isle of Man was the first country in the world to protect basking sharks in its waters.

 

The 'Great Wheel of Laxey' (or Queeyl Vooar Laksey in Manx), the largest original working waterwheel in the world. It's quite large.
