Just before Christmas, German artist Michael Pendry installed the Les Colombes exhibit: a winding column of more than 2,000 origami paper doves in the grand nave of Washington National Cathedral. Symbolizing hope and the Holy Spirit, the doves encourage a feeling of optimism as we end a challenging 2020 and begin a new year. This sculpture is arranged to give new life to our Cathedral, embody our resolve to be kind to our fellow human, and to do our part in making a better tomorrow.

Les Colombes has previously appeared in Salisbury Cathedral in Salisbury, England; St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London; Mount Zion in Jerusalem; Heilig-Geist Viktualienmarkt in Munich; and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. [cathedral.org/doves/about/]

Though I have always had trouble reading into abstract, modernist, installation art, Jason has tons of really interesting ideas rattling around inside his skull, which he sought to express through this artwork... Again, one of the things that makes an artist, I suppose - the need, or the ability, to express oneself through visual or physical depiction, rather than through words.

The gallery as a whole was designed to evoke the feeling of walking under a freeway underpass. This jumble of cables reinforces that symbolism, evoking the idea of electrons running around a freeway cloverleaf.

There's tons to be said here, but essentially Jason was talking about the scale of our world - scaled to cars, and not to people - and to the negative impact of suburban-ization.

"Language Generator" (by Lewis Gesner) has been a solo piece, a duet, and ensemble piece, as well as a public workshop project. It had a duration of anywhere from 6 hours to one week. This is what is done. I enter a gallery space with newsprint paper, markers, scotch tape, and a box of objects. For the duration of the piece, I examine the objects, one at a time, and make a noise to go with it, then, a line or symbol on the paper. I then post the result on the walls. This installation is put in place for the Robot 250 events in Pittsburgh. These cables are glass encased wires hooked up to track the position of people in PPG Place and create generative music based on that activity.

Retouched to pull the wires out of the background.

themes of voyeurism, story telling and process.

i am really interested in how context alters a piece of art and vice versa. i use the same group of objects within my installations, bringing in others found on site. the expectations and connotations brought to the piece are very different depending on the situation eg: a gallery, shop or outdoors. with this ongoing set of work i am interested in how this affects the reading of the piece.

"sometimes you fall into a story, but sometimes you have to take steps to unravel it." Janet Cardiff.

* placed in a gallery this installation means to challenge the viewers curiosity. the more they investigate the more answers they achieve. with all my pieces, a certain amount of 'stumbling accross' is involved. even in a gallery i try to find a secluded spot to bring the story to.

A árvore, a teia e a nuvem. As imagens da natureza são muito valiosas porque podem funcionar como códigos poéticos compartilhados que nos ajudam a olhar e nos (des)entender com mais encanto. A PLURALIDADE DE IMAGENS QUE A NUVEM ADMITE FAZ COM QUE ELA SEJA UMA PODEROSA ABSTRAÇÃO DA REALIDADE ATUAL: pesada e densa na quantidade e na permanência dos conteúdos que suporta; leve e frágil enquanto espaço virtual sem dono, sem fronteiras ecom relações de poder não hierarquizadas e,por fim, fluida e inconstante no eterno fluxoem que se movimenta.

TODO O EXCESSO DE INFORMAÇÃO DISPONÍVEL NÃO PRESSUPÕE, NECESSARIAMENTE, UM SUJEITO PLENO. AO CONTRÁRIO, ESSA É A ERADA FRAGILIDADE, DA INCOMPLETUDE DIANTE DA UTOPIA DA UBIQUIDADE.
