New arrivals at the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum are a pair of Owen Magnetic cars, dating from 1916 and 1917 respectively. The luxury model was produced between 1915 and 1921. Its unique feature was an early form of hybrid electric transmission, a forerunner of today’s hybrid cars. At the time, the Owen Magnetic was marketed under the slogan of ‘The Car of a Thousand Speeds’. A grand total of 974 cars were produced, Enrico Caruso was one notable customer. While contemporary Ford Model Ts could be bought for around $450, an Owen Magnetic cost between $3,000-5,000.

I noticed as I was framing the shot that the A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft in the background looked great being framed by the open doors.
