The recent outbreak of cholera in Zimbabwe is the worst the country has seen in many years. MSF is responding in a number of areas across the country to save people who have been stricken with the water-borne illness. The southern town of Beitbridge, on the border with South Africa, has been particularly hard hit. In one week since 14 November, more than 1,500 cases were reported in this town of approximately 50,000 people. The very poor water and sanitation conditions in the town makes it easier for the bacteria to spread.

From the museum label: Steadfast in the Christian faith, Sebastian endures martyrdom by arrow. The low-set viewer's standpoint means that his body shone on by bright light rises up monumentally. Rubens used impressions from his stay in Italy in this painting. For example, the surging of the martyr's upper body upwards, arising out of a slight rotation of the hip, recalls the famous antique marble sculpture of the Laocoon group in Rome.

Manyika Kashiri, 55, an MDC activist from Chigumbu village in Uzumba, had his foot smashed by an axe when militias stormed into his shack at midnight on Tuesday. Kashiri woke after a bang at his door and rocks smashing against his windows. When he emerged, he was hit with a log by one of the militias and another tried to chop off his right foot with an axe in front of his grandchildren, one of whom was just four.
