My 3rd early start in 4 days saw me heading through the rain up to Higger Tor. I held out little hope as I got off the train in Hathersage but it was too late to go back, may as well make a go of it.
I arrived on top and took advantage of the rather aptly named (in this instance, at least) Shelter Rock as I waited for an hour for sunrise. The wind whipped the clouds across as flurries of snow came and went... before I decided to have a wander round to take some gloomy shots.
Then, eventually, with 10 minutes of shooting time left before the run down the hill to the train... the sun finally showed itself and produced some beautiful golden light down the Hope Valley.
A very blustery day on Higger Tor. Struggled to hold the tripod down. Got soaked not long after this :-).

Storm Claudio really battered my tent during the night and the two-and-a-quarter mile up to Higger Tor at half-five in the morning seemed anything but the intuitive thing to. The brief windows between the bands of rain brought some stunningly beautiful moments, this one caught at sunrise at Higger Tor.
I don't know if the narrow monolith in the foreground has a colloquial name, but seeing as we have the Kit Kat Stones, I'd like to go with "The Flake".
Unfortunately I really started to feel unwell as the morning progressed and the weather was such that I couldn't see it being sensible to carry on with the rest of my week's camp.
A fantastic morning on Higger Tor when it all just comes together. Albeit briefly.
At first, with the hill cloaked in low cloud, it didn't look too promising. However, the sun managed to sneak below the cloud line briefly as it cleared the horizon, then light up the mist with quite breath taking effect.
One of those morning that serves as a reminder why I love landscape photography and the places I visit so much!
Almost did not bother the forecast suggesed the sky was going to be clear with a band of low cloud but in the end it was not too bad and the odd shower was coming through and the wind was howling. Pleased I made an effort to get out

A break from all the York photos today to go back to a rare occasion it was calm enough to use the 10 stop filter on Higger Tor.
287/365 Higger Tor is a dominant landmark of the Dark Peak, in the north of the Peak District National Park. It is a gritstone tor overlooking the Burbage Valley and the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark to the southeast.
Another image from last Monday's frosty visit up to Over Owler Tor, this lovely frozen puddle caught my eye and thought it would make interesting foreground detail against the Tor running through to a mist shrouded Higger in the background.(1/30 f6.3 @ 14mm 0.6 hard ND grad filter)

The view south-west from Higger Tor over Hathersage Moor towards Over Owler Tor. Taken shortly after sunrise.
Sunrise on Higger Tor I was hoping for some mist around here too as driving through winnats pass on the way here the whole valley had a nice covering but up on the higher ground there was very little about.
