Winterized boats on the beach of Steinberg Lake in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria.
Happy Sunday everyone!! 🌞❄🌞❄🌞
I was looking for Maya everywhere and suddenly I saw her 2 little ears appear, she was under my duvet, I couldn't resist taking a picture of her ;-)
Today she finished her 2nd series of 10 days of antibiotics hallelujah!
For the moment she is well, she plays and eats well, as long as it lasts, let's keep our fingers crossed.

A talus slope is a steep slope of rocky rubble high in the mountains. Pika make their homes within the crevices of talus slopes. I stopped here because I heard the alarm call of a pika, and in a few minutes I spotted it, sitting on a flat stone in the sun. Then this scene began to grow on me, not only for the colors, but also because East Beckwith Mountain (12,441 feet) in the distance had numerous talus slopes, undoubtedly populated by plka.
A pika is a small mammal with a round body, short ears, and no tail. They look like ground squirrels until they run--their gait reveals their close relationship with rabbits. They do not hibernate, but are active within the crevices of the talus when the snow, piled several feet deep, provides a thermal barrier to the deadly cold and withering winds outside.
Nature has undoubtedly mastered the art of winter gardening and even the most experienced gardener can learn from the unrestrained beauty around them.

Now the heat has come and insects and plants are popping up and creating life after a cold winter and spring.
A slightly dazed small tortoiseshell has just come out of hibernation and is enjoying the spring sun.

I have been hiding in my wee cave of an empty apartment pouring through book after book now that the semester has drawn to a close. Eat that, TV.

Cleo's Flickr friends already know that she hibernates in the basement, it's a habit she assumed years ago, probably because it's quiet and peaceful there and no other cats bother her. The camera doesn't bother her there either because it's too dark for photos. She rarely breaks this habit but today was apparently one of these days as she moved into a wicker basket cat cave in my bedroom instead. Cleo wasn't pleased when I found her and even less when I pointed the camera at her but you never know when you'll get another chance. I blamed her Flickr friends who want to see a photo of her occasionally. :)

The photo from my birch valley again. Half a year dream seems to be finished soon.
Thank you for all the comments and favs, my dear friends.
This ice covered truck actually is not fitting to the kind of photos I'm usually post here. But is shows perfectly the conditions I have found here in North Sweden.
Dieser vereiste LKW passt eigentlich nicht unbedingt zu den Bildern, die ich normalerweise veröffentliche. Er zeigt jedoch perfekt die Bedingungen, die ich im Norden von Schweden vorgefunden habe.
Tofu sleeps more than usual now because the days are shorter and the weather is mostly cold and wet. It seems that he intends to immitate Cleo and hibernate although she wouldn't allow him to join her in the basement. :)
One of my favourite spots. Next to a little lake these boats are always there and make a good subject. More to come I am sure.
The common shrew is a terrestrial species living almost anywhere and is most commonly found in hedgerows, scrubland, grassland and deciduous woodland. Since shrews must eat every 2-3 hours to survive they are often seen at the surface foraging for food, but live in burrows which may have been used previously by another animal. Shrews do not hibernate, but they do become less active in winter. Remarkably, their size shrinks in winter, so that they require less effort to move and so need less food, not only does the liver shrink but also the brain and the skull.
Size 48-80mm, tail 24-44mm; tail less than 3/4 length of head and body.
One from yesterday a fascinating tiny creature.
