Blanca Arranda, Library Aide, sews face masks for LA County employees who are being deployed as disaster worker to homeless shelters or to provide childcare for health care workers in medical facilities. The librarians are following instructions from the Medical College of Wisconsin and using suggested materials and supplies.
Because there is a shortage of mask for people in the frontlines, LA County Library sent out a call-out asking for volunteers to sew masks. Approximately 100 people with sewing skills volunteered, and to 23 those people started to work at La Puente Library. By the end of their first week, they’ll create 350 masks. Once all 100 volunteers get stocked with supplies, they will produce 1,500 face masks per week. (Photo Credit: Los Angeles County)

A few weeks ago, I was away on a business trip when my best friend was kindly taking care of my dog, Libby. During a walk, Libby swallowed a chicken bone within a nano-second. Without going into every drama detail, total panic ensued and every second counted. She couldn't breathe and they couldn't get the bone out. Appearing literally out of nowhere, a young man pulled up to the curb and asked if help was needed. YES! Thanks to this angel's appearance, a vet was found, an emergency procedure was accomplished and Libby lived. Her heart had almost stopped, tongue blue, not pretty. The Vet said it was a close call.
Libby is now bouncing around, happy as a clam, as if nothing ever happened. That's only because Justin (aka angel) acted fast and reached out to a stranger. A random act of kindness saved my dog's life and my friend's future (I would have killed her). :) Just kidding.
I hope to meet Justin soon and thank him from the bottom of my heart for stopping his life, to save someone else's (even if it was a furry life).
P.S. Do you think Libby knows? Regardless, I've ordered a muzzle.

Simple Gestures - my daughter is a nurse manager at a local care center. I have a stash of yarn piling up and thought I'd make gifts for the residents. I did some research and found a pattern for a shawl designed for those in wheelchairs. It was a hit and so I made some more.
I was invited to attend the center's volunteer luncheon and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the invitation. I mean, after all, all I did was make a couple shawls - no big deal.
As I was visiting with some other volunteers and they were in awe of my talents. I don't feel all that talented. I just like making things and the residents deserve some nice things too.
Volunteering comes in all shapes and forms. Help where and when you can.

While in the kitchen, I heard a scratching sound and noticed my cat climbing down the ladder. I dont think he made it to the very top but when I took his picture he got down quick.
