My focus Saturday must have been on walls. :) I did find a lot of them that were worth shooting, though.
‘Such a little thing, a fumbling politeness’
Morrissey
It’s been said before, ‘size matters’, and of course it does. ‘I’ll just have a tiny piece of ‘cake’’, said no one ever! But when it comes to mini cascades, these delicate ‘fumblings’ can be quite beautiful.
There’s nothing more impressive than witnessing a river in full spate after a prolonged downpour as you marvel at the thunderous noise and immense power as the river forces its way through the valley, unless of course it’s taking your home with it!
Many people may think there’s no point in doing waterfall photography in relatively dry spells, however, don’t be dissuaded as the river can put on a very different façade.
This shot was taken at the end of the Ingleton Waterfall Trail and it’s not even one of the named falls, but the scene was simply beautiful; late afternoon with some gorgeous light falling on the multi-coloured rocks and mosses and the fumbling politeness of the water as it almost asks permission to fall over them.
‘Is it ok, can I go now’? Said the River Doe as it winds its way towards the beautiful village of Ingleton.
Yes, I know, I’m delusional, the River Doe, doesn’t give a s*** and it’s coming anyway!
Hydrotherapy has been used for many years to help manage mental health by applying water to the body at different temperatures depending on the ailment, however, to quote Jermaine Stewart, ‘we don’t need to take our clothes off’.
The calming effect of just sitting quietly on a rock, watching the Dippers and Grey Wagtails go about their business as the water delicately fumbles its way down the valley cannot be underestimated.
I think that’s why I have an obsession with waterfalls. It can’t fail to help you ‘Get Better’.
Anyway, that’s enough rambling, here’s some music.
Warning, have your tissues ready!
Ps. I’m starting a petition to adopt ‘a politeness of fumblings’ as the collective noun for a group of small waterfalls. 🤔
NURSE PADDY: "Now, please be careful of the royal paw, Junior Nurse Scout!"
JUNIOR NURSE SCOUT: "I am being very gentle, Nurse Paddy. Are you alright, Your Majesty, son of Ma'am as in Ham?"
KING CHARLES III: "Indeed, Junior Nurse Scout."
NURSE PADDY: "Not too tight, Your Majesty?"
KING CHARLES III: "No, thank you, Nurse Paddy. We are feeling better already."
NURSE PADDY: "That's good to know, Your Majesty."
KING CHARLES III: "We are feeling relieved to be in the capable paws of two such experienced nurses as you, Nurse Paddy and Junior Nurse Scout."
JUNIOR NURSE SCOUT: "I should think you would, Your Majesty, son of Ma'am as in Ham!"
Like I am sure many of you were, my bears and I were startled by the news of His Majesty, King Charles, diagnosis of cancer. We think he is doing a very good thing by letting the public know limited details of his diagnosis in order to raise the idea of cancer awareness with the general populace.
All our thoughts and good wishes (and lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses) go to him as we wish him a speedy recovery and return to health, and to The Queen and all the Royal Family, who, like millions of other families rich and poor alike around the world, are impacted by the scourge of cancer.
God bless His Majesty. Long may He reign over us.
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his Macintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
His Majesty King Charles III Commemorative Teddy Bear is number 72 of a worldwide limited edition of 2023 released by Merrythought in the United Kingdom. Beautifully crafted in Merrythought’s historic British factory, His Majesty is a true heirloom and features golden mohair plush paired with pure cotton velvet paws, one of which is embroidered with The King’s official cypher and the occasion date. His noble persona is enhanced by deep blue eyes and a neatly hand-stitched nose and smile. He looks very much like his Royal human counterpart. Marking the first Coronation in seventy years, His Majesty is dressed in an impressive pure cotton velvet robe, with satin lining, gold embroidery and Italian tassel detailing. As befitting a new monarch, he is presented with a stunning silver-plated replica of the Imperial state crown. Adorned with twenty six glass gemstones, pure cotton velvet lining and white woven faux fur trim, it is a masterpiece in its own right.
I borrowed this from my husband's collection of antique medicine bottles. I found an article in the St. John Daily Sun dated Jan. 25, 1905 recommending this product (see comments).

JAGO: “Paddy! Oh Paddy! Scout!”
PADDY and SCOUT: “What is it, Jago?”
JAGO: “Oh Paddy! Oh Scout! It’s poor Odessa! She has fallen into a swoon after the attack by the Russians on the Ukrainian port city of Odesa!”
PADDY: “I’m not surprised Jago. Odesa is our Odesa’s favourite city, and is the city she was named after. Poor Odessa!”
SCOUT: “This sounds like a job for Nurse Paddy!”
PADDY: “And Junior Nurse Scout!”
JAGO: “Oh please! May I help too. I feel very deeply for Odessa and I want to be of assistance too, although I have no nursing experience.” *Looks down sadly.* “But I must be able to be of some assistance.”
PADDY: *Thinks.* “I know! You can be Matron Jago!”
SCOUT: “Oh yes Nurse Paddy! That is a very good idea!” *Scratches head with paw. “What does a Matron do?”
JAGO: “Yes, what does a Matron do, Nurse Paddy?”
PADDY: “Well, they kind of oversee things, and do paperwork and matronly duty like things, Matron Jago.”
JAGO: “Oh well, I can do that! What shall I do Nurse Paddy?”
PADDY: “Well, Matron Jago, I need you to go and get ‘Sleeping Beauty’ from Daddy’s bookshelf. Briar Rose fell into a deep swoon, so we need to see what they used to try and help revive her, so we can pack them in our travelling first aid kit.”
JAGO: “Yes Nurse Paddy!”
SCOUT: “But Nurse Paddy, those things didn’t wake Briar Rose up!”
PADDY: “I know Junior Nurse Scout, but Briar Rose was under a magic spell. Odessa has just fallen into a swoon, so they should work for her.”
JAGO: “I have the book here, Nurse Paddy. Now it says that they, ahem…” *Clears throat.* “They ‘They threw water on her face, chafed her with their hands, rubbed her temples with the Queen of Hungary’s essence and put smelling salts under her nose.’”
SCOUT: “We don’t have any water that belongs to the Queen of Hungary, Nurse Paddy. What about some sparkling water from the refrigerator?”
PADDY: “Very good thinking, Junior Nurse Scout. I have the smelling salts here.”
SCOUT: “What are smelling salts, Nurse Paddy?”
PADDY: “Well, Junior Nurse Scout, they are things in a jar that help revive people. It has a very… individual scent, Junior Nurse Scout.”
SCOUT: “Ooohh! I want to smell them.”
JAGO: “I don’t think you should Junior Nurse Scout. I th….”
SCOUT: “Removes stopper from green glass jar and takes a deep sniff. “Oh YUCK!” *Quickly stuffs stopper back onto jar.* “That stuff stinks!” *Rubs muzzle with paw.* “How disgusting! Yuck! Yuck! YUCK!” *Sticks out cute little pink bear tongue.* “They stink worse than cats pee daisies!”
JAGO: “Well, that will help revive Odessa then, Junior Nurse Scout.”
SCOUT: “Oh! Yes of course, Matron Jago.”
PADDY: “Well, we’re about packed then, Matron Jago and Junior Nurse Scout.”
SCOUT: “Wait Paddy! We also need to pack lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses to make Odessa feel better!”
JAGO: “Don’t worry, Junior Nurse Scout! I will help administer those to Odessa.” *Blushes pink beneath blue mohair plush.*
PADDY: “Right! Let’s go then Matron Jago and Junior Nurse Scout!”
JAGO and SCOUT: “Yes Nurse Paddy!”
PADDY: “Don’t worry Odessa, Otis and Pat! Help is on the way!”
My bears Paddy, Scout, Cousin Paddington, Bogart and Jago have made very good friends with three bears in Estonia: brother and sister bears Otis and Odessa, and Pat who is distantly related to Paddy and Cousin Paddington. Jago even has a bit of a crush on Odessa because they are both blue bears, and blue bears are quite rare. What Jago says is true, poor Odessa collapsed into a deep swoon after she saw that ber favourite city, Odesa, after whom she was named, was bombed by a Russian missile. You can see the picture here: www.flickr.com/photos/17898316@N00/52026172514/in/feed-25... or in the first comment below. Thank goodness Nurse Paddy, Junior Nurse Scout and Matron Jago. I’m sure they will help revive poor Odessa.
Jago is reading from my 1894 first edition copy of "The Sleeping Beauty and Dick Whittington and his Cat" illustrated by Arts and Crafts artist Robert Anning Bell, published by J. M. Dent & Company, at Aldine House in Great Eastern Street, London.
The bottle of smelling salts paddy has are sealed in a green glass jar which has only a scrap of its label left. It is a Nineteenth Century antique.

Bogart has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. He has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature.
Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.
SCOUT: "Paddy! Paddy come quickly!"
PADDY: "What is it, Scout? What's the matter?" *Looks.* "Scout why do you have the first aid kit out, and what are you doing with those paper crowns?"
SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! Daddy is so sad!" *Frowns.* "We must help him!"
PADDY: "Well of course, Scout, but what does the first aid kit have to do with making Daddy better? Did he fall over? And if he did, what do our party paper crowns have to do with it?"
SCOUT: "Well, you see, Paddy, Daddy is sad because this morning he saw on the telly that The Queen is sick! She has the nasty virus that people get that bears don't! We need to go to London right now and make her better with our mini... mini..."
PADDY: "Ministrations, Scout?"
SCOUT: "Our good care. We can use the first aid kit to make her so much better, so then Daddy will be happy again. However as we are going to be looking after The Queen, we had better wear crowns, so we don't look out of place with all the princes and princesses, lords and ladies, because they all wear crowns too!"
PADDY: "Well why didn't you say so, Junior Royal Nurse Scout!"
SCOUT: "I just did Royal Nurse Paddy!"
PADDY: "Hhhmmm... I don't know if The Queen would like to be touched with surgeon's gloves. I think we need white gloves. I will borrow Daddy's white evening gloves. He hasn't worn them since this nasty virus started, so I'm sure he won't mind us borrowing them for The Queen."
SCOUT: "And The Queen won't like ordinary Dettol soap, as it smells kind of clinical. So I'll pop in some of this nice pretty smelling soap I found in Daddy's jumpers drawer. It has a pretty lady on the front and has writing in a foreign language, so it must be expensive and fit for The Queen."
PADDY: "Good idea Junior Royal Nurse Scout!"
DADDY: "Hullo Paddy. Hullo Scout. What are you doing with the first aid kit and wearing paper crowns on your head?"
PADDY: "Ahem... Daddy, I am Royal Nurse Paddy today."
SCOUT: "And I am Junior Royal Nurse Scout."
PADDY: "And we heard that you were sad because The Queen has the nasty virus, so Junior Royal Nurse Scout suggested that we should go to London to make her better."
SCOUT: "And then that will make you happy!"
DADDY: "Oh that is very lovely of both of you, but London is a long way for two little nurse bears to travel alone, and I would be even more upset if you left me. Besides, we are lucky, The Queen only has mild symptoms and she has her own royal physicians to help give her the very best care."
SCOUT: "Then what can we do to make you happy, Daddy?"
PADDY: "And help The Queen, Daddy?"
DADDY: "Well, what do you do better than anything and enjoy giving more than anything?"
SCOUT: "Big little bear hugs, Daddy!"
PADDY: "And snuffly kisses, Daddy!"
DADDY: "Excellent! Then perhaps you could wish The Queen, and any of our Flickr friends, like Mummy Kat, who might have the nasty virus lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses. It will make them all feel so much better."
SCOUT: "Oh, what a good idea, Daddy!"
PADDY: "So, Your Majesty, we are sending you, Mummy Kat and any of our special Flickr friends who might have the nasty virus, lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses!"
SCOUT: "To make you all feel soooo much better!"
What Paddy and Scout say is true, The Queen has contracted Coronavirus, but luckily her symptoms are mild. We wish Her Majesty, and any of our Flickr friends who might have Coronavirus lots of good wishes for a speedy recovery.

PADDY: "What is it, Scout? What's the matter?"
SCOUT: "Paddy! Paddy! Poor Peter was walking around on his stilts and fell over!"
PADDY: "Oh no!" *Puts paw to mouth in concern.*
SCOUT: "Yes Paddy, and he has hurt his legs! Mijn beste vriend is gekwetst!" *Sad.*
PADDY: "Then we best don our nursing outfits, don't you think Junior Nurse Scout?"
SCOUT: "I do indeed, Nurse Paddy!"
PADDY: "I will go and get the first aid kit."
SCOUT: "Good idea, Nurse Paddy! Don't worry mijn beste vriend, we are coming!"
BANG! CRASH! ZZZZIIPP!
SCOUT: "Goodness Nurse Paddy! Whatever was that noise?"
PADDY: "I was just pulling out the medical kit, Junior Nurse Scout, when it fell off the edge of the bench and crashed on the floor!"
SCOUT: "Goodness Nurse Paddy! Is it alright, or does the medical kit need medical attention?"
PADDY: "I don't think so Junior Nurse Scout. Now, let's see, we have bandages, antiseptic cream, tape, clips. Yes! I think we have everything we need to help Peter, Junior Nurse Scout!"
SCOUT: "That's not quite everything, Nurse Paddy!"
PADDY: "It isn't Junior Nurse Scout?"
SCOUT: "No, Nurse Paddy! We need to take lots and lots and lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses to help make Peter feel better."
PADDY: "Well, you had best take charge of them, Junior Nurse Scout, as they are more important than anything in this kit to help speed Peter's recovery!"
SCOUT: "I will! Hoorah!" *Jumps up and down.* "Oh thank you Nurse Paddy! Did you hear that Peter? Stay with Oleg and Cuddly Bear, mijn beste vriend! Nurse Paddy and I are on our way! We are sending lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses to comfort you until we get there! Veel berenkusjes en knuffels voor mijn beste vriend Peter, van Scout!"
My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy (Marian Kloon (on and off)) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter fell over on his stilts, poor little bear. (You can see the picture here www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/51113264699/in/photost..., or in the first comment below). So Nurse Paddy and Junior Nurse Scout are on their way to provide medical assistance.

Today my Sarah Jean had a 'suspect' mole removed from her foot. My poor baby was in pain after the anaesthetic wore off. On the way home I bought her a smiley face cupcake. It did bring a smile to her face. Hope you all have a smile on your face this week! x
Monday 11/5 - the mole was fine (relief) - stitches out on Friday. Happy Mum.

I've been out because of a lot of Christmas stuff to do, because of Thanksgiving, and because I have a pinched nerve, which is getting various kinds of treatment, thank God.
