The Seymour Generating Station on the Trent River near Campbellford Ontario. It was cofounded by John Kerry, an electrical engineering professor at McGill University and Cecil B. Smith, a Toronto engineer, who formed the Seymour Power and Electric Company in 1908. Its five turbines/generators, went on line in December 1909. Acquired by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario in 1916

A visit to Toledo Edison's Acme Generating Station and its unique electric railway in 1993, the year the plant was closed. The railway had an unusual "side trolley" arrangement (wire offset completely to one side) to provide clearance for loading hopper cars.
This shot shows locomotive No. 2 with the Toledo skyline in the background. No. 2 was my personal favorite in the Toledo Edison fleet. Built new for TE in 1924 by the Differential Car Company of Ohio, it features rounded ends characteristic of DIFCo's well-known trolley dump cars.
The last portion of the facility was demolished in 2013. The electric locomotives have been preserved by several museums / individuals. No. 2 went originally to the Waterfront Electric Railway museum group in Toledo, and eventually to the Northern Ohio Railway Museum.
Additional info on this locomotive can be found on the NORM website: www.trainweb.org/norm/roster/electricfreight.htm#TEC02
Built in 1898, the Decew Falls plant was originally built by the Cataract Power Company of Hamilton, Ontario. It was originally built to provide power to the electric street railway in Hamilton – in those days many power developments in Niagara were intended for specific power markets – 34 miles away by transmission at 22,500 Volts (three-phase). Both the use of high voltage to transmit power that distance, as well as the use of three-phase and the relatively high frequency, are unique features of this installation. The plant was acquired by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission (now OPG) in 1930 and continues to generate power for the province on Ontario. The plant itself was expanded several times with a second station added in 1943 to help supply power for the war effort.

Wintertime in New York City transforms the moist air from the East River Generating Stacks into white puffy clouds.
I took this with Fuji's Velvia 100 film. This film is the Ferrari of films. I write more about here: www.chrisford.com/blog/fuji-velvia.
If you have ever driven in downtown Denver during the winter, you probably will have noticed steam billowing out from under the manhole covers. Well this is the facility that produces it. This is Xcel Energy's Zuni Generating Station on the Platte River and the steam that is produced is used for heating many of the large buildings in downtown.
The Zuni Generating Station was built in 1900 and is part of the oldest continuously operated commercial district steam heating system in the world.
