After reading how Genghis Khan's armies overcame any fortification they encountered, fortresses no longer look the same to me. :-) This is part of the three castles/ramparts in Belinzona that have been designated a Unesco World Heritage site.. For 700 years, the Akershus fortress has been standing guard over Oslo to ward off all attempts to invade the city from the sea. King Håkon V began building in 1299, since when the fortifications have undergone numerous improvements and reconstructions. (As seen from Aker Brygge)
