The Lantern Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is a popular lunar harvest festival celebrated by Chinese.
This year, Suri and I went to my uncle's for the traditional family party.
We didn't eat any mooncakes because the dinner was superb.
As last year, we went to the riverside after party to release some Kongming Lanterns.
Peace.

Last year at the October wine festival--on this exact weekend--it was 80 degrees and I wore short sleeves. Today I had a coat (on top of my shirt and sweater) and it was STILL cold.
Spent a few hours yesterday at the Irvine Global Village Festival, the O.C.'s largest cultural fest. So much to see, hear, and taste! I shot only with my D7100 and 70-300mm. What a treat!
This is one of the bellydancers that performed with the group call "the JEWELS that RAQ!" This is Meliza, the founder and director of the troop and only one that danced with a snake. This shot gave me an old "Raquel Welch" vibe, so I took out a couple of light poles that were distracting.
The "Jewels" have a new home, performing at the Caspian, a Persian restaurant in Irvine.
Mamallapuram Dance Festival
Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is an ancient historic town and was a bustling seaport during the time of Periplus (1st century CE) and Ptolemy (140 CE). Ancient Indian traders who went to countries of South East Asia sailed from the seaport of Mahabalipuram.
By the 7th century it was a port city of South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas. It has a group of sanctuaries, which was carved out of rock along the Coromandel coast in the 7th and 8th centuries: rathas (temples in the form of chariots), mandapas (cave sanctuaries), giant open-air reliefs such as the famous 'Descent of the Ganges', and the Shore Temple, with thousands of sculptures to the glory of Shiva. The group of monuments at Mahabalipuram has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Indian (or Mamallapuram) Dance Festival is held every year during Dec-Jan in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. This dance festival is organised by Department of Tourism, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. Exponents of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi, Mohini Attam and Kathakali perform against this magnificent backdrop of the Pallava rock sculptures.
Descent of the Ganges is a monument in Mahabalipuram. Measuring 29 m × 13 m, it is a giant open-air relief carved of two monolithic rock boulders. The legend depicted in the bas-relief is the story of the descent of the sacred river Ganges to earth from the heavens led by Bhagiratha. The waters of the Ganges are believed to possess supernatural powers. The descent of the Ganges and Arjuna's Penance are portrayed in stone at the Pallava heritage site. The bas-relief is more of a canvas of Indian rock cut sculpture at its best not seen anywhere in India. It is one of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram that were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.

Eric and I visited the Festival of Lights 2008 at VanDusen Botanical Garden.
It's always difficult to capture the lights....especially when it's so cold !

... and the first summer's day (25°C)! In the background St Paul's Church at the northern end of Theresienwiese (Oktoberfest site).
The Brazilica Festival is the largest celebration of Brazilian culture in the United Kingdom that has been held annually in Liverpool, England since July 2008. It is produced by the Liverpool Carnival Company, an organisation that has operated as a registered charity since 2007. The festival began during Liverpool's reign as European Capital of Culture in 2008 when a Rio-style Carnival Parade swept through the streets of the city. In its current format, the festival consists of a week-long celebration of Brazilian culture including music, art, food, film and dance events that take place at indoor venues across the city which build up to an outdoor city centre carnival street party that takes place in Williamson Square and samba carnival parade.
The Liverpool Samba School was set up by husband and wife creative team Roger and Maeve Morris in 1995. The school performed at the Rio Carnival in 2000 and wanted to bring a touch of the Carnival's magic to streets in their own city. In 2007, the creative team established the Liverpool Carnival Company with an aim of delivering a Carnival event the following year.
