‘The Political Reporter’ is a new media installation by Boone, NC-based artist Mark Nystrom that generates random, but intriguing statements with words found on political websites and in the media. Sources include the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns, the Democratic and Republican parties, bloggers and the news media.

‘The Political Reporter’ animates a cloud of letters and periodically makes statements. These images are screen grabs taken while ‘The Political Reporter’ was running on Election Day and the day after.

Letters from words gathered from conservative sources are colored red and ones from liberal sources are blue. ‘The Political Reporter’s’ vocabulary includes over 70,000 words, but only 300 appear on the screen at any given time. As words are used to make statements, they are replaced by randomly chosen new ones from the list of 70,000.

Okay..explain to me the size of the U-Boat and the size of the inside...for a man-made structure that huge on the outside it was very claustrophobic inside. Not a place where I would be able to work...ah..another thing..we were told the toilet was not allowed to be used if they went below a certain sealevel...

At one point apparently Al lost the thread of the narrative, but you'd never know it to listen to her.

For over 12 years now, I’ve followed the English Premier League. The passion is high and the games, the victories, and the losses matter so much to us. The excitement and entertainment is beyond my ability to explain. I’m sure there are millions of football fans like me all over India.

We’ve always cribbed about Indian football or just simply chose to ignore it. But that has changed for me, and is changing for many these days. Bengaluru Football Club, founded in 2013, got the people in the city together. Initially, it was just a few people, being vocal, singing chants all throughout the game. That passion grew beyond them and has been spreading to reach every football enthusiast in the city.

West Block Blues, BFC’s most crazy fans always come out in huge numbers to support the club every other week. You can clearly see how much this means to us; it’s a bond that is just growing stronger. We sing, chant, make creative yet intimidating banners; BFC is now one of the toughest teams to play in the country at their home.

This season we even had pre-match rituals with flares and chants to get into the mood for the game. 2 championships in 3 years of existence - now that’s an amazing feat.

Best club, best fans. If this is in any way an indication, Indian football is on the rise, and fast.

What remains is - will you be in that number when the blues go marching in?

My name is Bob Griffin, and I am a full-time faculty member who teaches Information Architecture for the Web Design & Interactive Media Department at The New England Institute of Art. I joined forces with Dorothee Shamonsky and Kay Aubrey (who were the Interface Design and Usability adjunct faculty, respectively) to define the interaction design curricula at the college. The reason that we felt it necessary to get together and define the interaction design curricula was due to our student population complaining about too much overlap in the three separate areas of study.

It’s my feeling that Information Architecture, Interface Design and Usability are separate areas of study, and yet they are also three peas in a pod. You have to have one to help define the other. Trying to talk about one without some semblance of understanding of the other two, is like trying to describe the Three Stooges by only talking about Larry.

Please take a look at what we came up with below. There will always be agreement to disagree — but in the long run — after we did this analysis, our students stopped complaining.
