To explain: this was a project to make a new product from an existing one: transform an old drawing board into something else. So I made a reclining chair - whatever else? All of the parts are the complete drawing board, with the allowance for adding 40% extra bits. All that was added was a 'gas lift' cylinder from on old office chair to use as the recliner and some timber to house the gas unit and operating handle at the back. The stripe on the chair's face is the plastic ruler from the drawing board, the blue mild steel frame was the drawing board's frame but it was pressed to the two part shape with a former thet was made for the task. The wire used on the original board for the ruler to slide up, is now used to pre tension the lower section of the frame. It was part of a fan project during studies for Product Design Engineering at Glasgow School of Art. We only had four weeks to create it(in academic terms, that's really four days since we were only doing this part of the course one day a week)

On Saturday, July 10, the Red Cross tested our ability to respond to a large-scale earthquake in the Seattle area. As part of the state-wide Sound Shake 2010 drill (www.soundshake2010.org), more than 200 people came from across King and Kitsap Counties to set up and staff two Red Cross shelters, one in Renton and one in Federal Way.
