Frank explaining something. Possibly the Russian revolution, or perhaps why I got a grant and they didn't.
This photo demonstrates expressive communication in the form a subject making a passionate explanation to a person out of shot the image is structured in such a way as to show the subjects excited gestures as she sincerely tries to explain something to another, her facial expression reflect an earnest desire to be understood while also showing the seriousness of the subject, the multiple overlay images also convey the a hint of frustration in the subject.
I shot the subjects profile to suggest to the viewer that a conversation is taking place with another person who is off shot. I used a BULB shutter speed in order to compose this shot. I mounted the camera on the tripod and switched off all the lights and instructed the subject and light holder as to what i wanted. I used low key lighting technique using a desk lamp with a homemade funnel around the end of it to control the dispersion of the light. I began by instructing my light assistant to switch on the light in three one second bursts, in between these bursts i instructed the subject to move into three postions, the first postion to be with her sat still for the primary image, the second with her moving her hands (in order to create some blur to denote movement) and the final shot for the subject to bow her head to indicate frustration. After these three bursts of light the final result was a ‘layered’ composite image which gave the desired animated result .
I adhered to the compositional principal of the rule of thirds placing the subjects eyes the top line of the thirds grid.

I ask a friend of mine to explain in his mind what the Film Prometheus was all about. (I made the image in Art Rage)
Its not an Alien film - thats the point, it takes place in the Alien universe but its not an Alien film. And yet its very "Alien" - which I loved.
Here is his view and interesting indeed.
The Engineers created us - they create life. This is the guy at the beginning. We come from their dna. Again, I love the "if they are the creators - who created them?"aspect - its questioning religion and our beliefs - if we have a God & one day we find him- who created him? And into infinity we go...
They created life, we dont know why - but it bit them on the arse & they created a monster- was that us or the alien? On that planet they were experimenting with creating life - but theyall died - it questions us as a species, as we get more technologically advanced & clone animalsetc are we playing God? We are God to someone or something as well - when we create life weare playing God & it will bite us on the arse as well - we are them as we come from their dna. They decided we must die - our species must be stopped. There must have been a war ora reason why they were creating life / bioweapons on that planet. There may not have been a reason- they do it because they can - like us. Or, they realised we will inevitably destroy everything we touch- like they did - hence, we must die.
So that planet is left alone for 200 years (these creatures evolve over 200 years) & then suddenly we land there in Alien& the shit starts. I love that the Alien comes from us & them (the engineers) - it was our dna that made them.
Inky was a pre-evolutionary facehugger. Those creatures in the "Earth Room" come from worms - did you seethem? They had specimens of life from Earth there...
We also dont know if that guy is Weyland - we just know he is rich & part of Weyland Corp.

me and lynn sat in the lift from 11:45pm to catch the mysterious changing of the days. (this is the only way you keep track of time while on a cruise.) lo and behold, at midnight on the dot, all lifts are called to the basement where this lady changes out the marble plaque.
