As you can see, this is an early steam engine which ran through Mannheim, IL (the area where Mannheim Road is located). Mannheim later became part of Franklin Park.

Actually a ploughing engine, with a large drum cable fitted under the boiler. Made by John Fowler of Leeds, who pioneered steam ploughing.

I had a blown head gasket, so i pulled the engine to make that easier. I had teh transmission rebuilt while the engine was out. I replaced all the suspension bushings, new lowered springs, shocks, and brake rotors.

The Fire Brigade were out in force. Minutes earlier, another engine had come down this way on priorities. This one cruised sedately down the street, then came back travelling just as sedately back. I almost expected someone to lean out of the cab and shout "where's the fire?"

This fantastic album of photos is compiled from shots taken by Joan and Huw Thomas at an Engine gig at The Woughton Centre in Milton Keynes on 21/04/1989. The pictures truly capture the essence of an excellent Engine live performance.

(Many thanks to Joan and Huw Thomas, and to Simon Berry at Engine's Facebook website, for these pictures, which can also be viewed individually at the Facebook site).
