They didn’t call the Chrysler 300 letter series luxury cars “bankers’ hot rods” for nothing. The 1956 300-B’s big V-8 achieved that holy grail of one horsepower per cubic inch. The cars dominated NASCAR, where rules still restricted teams to stock power. Note the cutout in the right wheel well and the nearby spotlight. Main line engine from West Africa. 2'6" gauge, 2-6-2, built by the Hunslet Engine Company in Leeds in 1954. Retired in 1974 when the Sierra Leone Railway closed. There it languished until No. 85 was brought back to the UK to work at the preserved Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, where it regularly hauled passenger trains until April 2010.
