The jars are used to preserve homemade jellies, jams, fruit, etc.
This jar is clear glass with the words stamped into the glass. I shot my photo through the jar in the foreground, with a stained glass lampshade as background.

Un grand merci pour vos favoris, commentaires et encouragements toujours très appréciés.
Many thanks for your much appreciated favorites and comments.
Decided to go with a utilitarian object rather than something vintage. Had to stick the lens inside the glass to take this which got interesting when I tried to put some sparkling water in there too!
I have a NEW, small stained glass disc made of blown glass by artists at a shop in Rhode Island, USA. The Anchor in the center is the symbol for Hope in Christian symbols and also in the state symbol for Rhode Island. In this new year and always, HOPE abides.
photo is 2" x 2"
Theme: "New"
Thank you for taking the time to view my photo, and for the faves and comments you make, thank you.
No ideas for today, but at lunch with my dear friend, Anne, looked at my water glass, tipped the water into my coffee cup and shot the embossed glass.
No glasses were harmed etc..............

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!
Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Looking close on Friday is embossed glass. Surprisingly it was a difficult theme for me… I have lots of embossed glass props in my house but I could not decide on a concept for this picture… And since I’m super busy at work I had almost no time to think about my pictures for this week. So, in the end I decided to go with a candy bowl I got at a garage sale few years ago. It isn’t super old but it is vintage for sure. It is embossed glass, there is no doubt about it. And since we are talking about glass, I had to use my lens ball in this picture. I hope you will like it.
FYI: I’m very busy at work so I might not be able to answer your comments… So comment at your own risks ! However, I will read everything for sure !
Mucho, mucho amor for you !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !
Anchors embossed all around a on a small drinking glass. Made in Italy. The little dots in this photo are air bubbles: I filled the glass with water. The glass itself has no bubbles. Blue color is from a separate background light. Glass itself has a muted green tone, not visible here.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 19th of April is "embossed glass". When the theme was announced, I looked through my glass collection and selected one of my more unusual pieces of glass… well for my collection anyway. Most of my collection is made up of British or European glass, yet this piece is American. It is an American Pattern Glass “Daisy and Diamond” spooner from the late Nineteenth or early Twentieth Century. The pattern name comes from the delicate daisies and diamonds embossed into it. Although it doesn’t appear in my photo, it has a slight lavender colourisation to it, which indicates that it is old glass. You’ll also see a couple of bubbles in the ruffled edges, which also identifies this as pre 1920s glass. And what is a spooner? In an ordinary middle-class or lower-class home in America at the turn of the Twentieth Century, knives and forks were kept in a drawer, very much like they are in all households worldwide today. However, the spoons were kept in the spoon holder next to the sugar bowl that was left on the table. There wasn’t a centrepiece, just necessary items on the kitchen table. Some spooners can be mistaken for large sugar bowls since they have handles on each side and are a similar shape. Spooners, however do not have lids. They were designed, as the name suggests, to hold spoons. Most spooners are older than the 1920’s. They are often identified as early American Pattern Glass or pressed glass. Most glass spooners were produced with company patterns that were named. The names can be fanciful and descriptive, such as “Eyewinker”, which refers to orbs that look like winking eyes in the glass. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile!

I wasn't going to use this photo since I think a lot of people might use canning jars and I like to do something different. But every time I come across this photo in my archives, I'm reminded of a quote that I read decades ago in the Chicago Tribune - "The way we figure, there's nothing that so often goes with a wide mouth as a narrow mind." Given the times we live in, I figured today was a great time to post it.
