GB Railfreight Class 92, 92033 makes very light work of the 600+ tonne Caledonian Sleeper Down Highlander (1S25) as it speeds through Hartford.
Class 92s were designed to haul trains up to three times heavier than the Sleeper, so despite being the longest regular scheduled passenger train in Europe, it is well within this loco's capabilities.

From the Dickenson County Historical Museum - another part of our delightful trip to Abilene. I hvae heard of and seen pictures of the Coleman Arc Lantern - but had never seen one in-person.
Coleman collecting is/was a pretty good part of my life - and this was a real treat to see. Not at all sure how it works - or even if this is assembled correctly or is even functional.

The history of Western psychiatry is replete with mistakes as well as successes. Currently, high-income countries desperately need reforms to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and availability of behavioral health care (relating to mental functioning and substance use). Meanwhile, developing behavioral health systems in low- and middle-income countries presents major challenges to policy makers. Unmet behavioral health needs and burdens are enormous, but as change occurs, there is the danger that Western mistakes will be repeated.
We need to review bio-psycho-social understandings and see how these may be implemented most effectively in the context of diverse cultures, beliefs and values. Innovations in service delivery, taking advantage of upcoming and adapted technologies, offer opportunities which should be assessed in ways appropriate to those different contexts. We also need to explore how patients’ interests, rights and preferences may be best elicited, protected and acted upon, consistent with institutional and legal norms informed by health care delivery science. Both aspects are key to determining how health systems’ capacity can be built most economically and effectively, and how ‘patients’ can be ‘agents’ in their own behavioral health care.

October 12, 2011, Albany - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announces transformative steps that his administration is taking to change the way state government does business in order to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
The reforms will focus on five specific areas, including transforming the procurement process by harnessing the state's full buying power to reduce costs, eliminating costly empty space leased by the state, modernizing information technology systems, improving customer service, and streamlining business services. These reforms are expected to save taxpayers $600 million in all funds over five years including $100 million in all funds over the next fiscal year.

Thermal cameras are used in energy audits to see problems with a building that you couldn't see with the naked eye. Things like incorrectly installed insulation, moisture, holes, leaky duct work, etc.

This is an oversimplification, but it gives the basic idea. Every energy transfer loses energy. The percentage of energy that does what you want is something worth looking at. The controversy of switching light bulbs seems to have passed, but when Republican President Bush and the Democratic Congress in the mid 2000s were looking at ways to decrease the US dependence on outside energy sources, phasing devices that wasted 90% of the energy put in seemed like a good place to start. There was an outrage over this, partly because the transition technology of compact fluorescent bulbs wasn't great, but with the advent of LED bulbs it seems that most are thrilled for the switch and the 75% reduction in energy use.
Internal combustion engines like we have in cars are also very inefficient, but there are physical laws that prevent them from getting much better (see Carnot's law.) Fuel economy has been increased enormously in recent years, however, because there's many other things that can be tweaked to increase efficiency (lightening weight, improving aerodynamics, etc)
