"Just like an eagle

I will dare to go even

beyond the sky even if it is the limit

But wait will the sky allow me beyond it

or will it say i am the limit......."

I was on our deck shooting Bald Eagles in the distance. The Eagles are using the updrafts in the Columbian River Gorge. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and this Immature Bald Eagle was in coming and flew right over my head. This is the closest encounter I have ever had with a Bald Eagle! I believe he might have been checking out our Koi pond, which has a metal netting.

I was out in our backyard gardening, when I was graced with a flyby by an Immature Bald Eagle!! I heard his calls and saw the Eagle heading my way, so I ran inside and grabbed my camera :)

Bird of Prey - Great Spotted Eagle (I'm not a big bird connoisseur and I could be wrong).

Collage of two photos: the bird was photographed in the summer, in the Moscow park, for the background it took the winter nature of Krasnogorsk.

The Greater Spotted Eagle (Latin Aquila clanga) is one of the common subspecies of spotted eagles belonging to the hawk family.

You can meet the Great Spotted Eagle on the territory of the forest and forest-steppe. Inhabitants of the Russian latitudes nest in the European region near the Volga in the Urals and the Yenisei valley in Cisbaikalia. Outside of Russia, they can be found in the west of Poland, Finland, Yugoslavia and Romania. Part of the population is located in eastern China.

As a nesting area, great spotted eagles use high-leaved forests located in river valleys and wetlands. For them, the presence of meadows, clearings, swamps and wastelands is important, since in such regions they find themselves a large amount of food. Some representatives are found at an altitude of up to a thousand meters above the sea.

The population of the Greater Spotted Eagle has declined sharply for a number of reasons. The main limiting factor is the disappearance of the habitual habitat. As a rule, this is due to the widespread deforestation, which are used by great spotted eagles for nesting. In addition, the drainage of bogs and plowing of meadows affect the number of the species. At the moment, the great spotted eagle is in the Red Book of Russia.

the coastal hikes in Newfoundland were breathtaking! the forests are so unique , and I saw a lot of wildlife this day. A moose, bald eagle and baby wolves playing in the distance around this spot. Unfortunately the photo is not too clear to share of the moose and baby wolves just enjoyed watching them. The bald eagle I will share soon :)

have a great day!

As I noted on last Friday I was slow with return comments because I was going out to shoot eagles.

I am posting just 3 of the shots for now - I call it Grab, Go & Dine - what they seem to do all day long.

These were taken at Lock & Dam 14 in Le Claire, IA on the Mississippi River.

For those who follow this are - the count was only 4 in the am but around 15-20 in late afternoon.

The pair of Bald Eagles I've been watching have their nest in a dead tree that is out in a lake. Tonight, two Canada Geese insisted on swimming around the tree all evening, even after two low level, fly by warning passes by the male Bald Eagle. Finally, after further agitation from the geese, the male gave one of the geese that decided to perch in a low branch on an adjacent tree a love tap on its back. This photo is just before impact.

Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

Art - Collage with layers and Texture

Minnesota had an Eagle disaster not too long ago,

At least 13 bald eagles were likely poisoned by scavenging the carcasses of euthanized animals that were improperly dumped at a Minnesota landfill, and three of the majestic birds have died.

The University Vet department spent a lot of time trying to save the Eagles that literally fell out of the sky.

Only 3 died, and the rest were released after rehabilitation.

"The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that state and federal wildlife officials are investigating after the eagles were found this month near the Pine Bend Landfill in the Minneapolis suburb of Inver Grove Heights."

A couple of weeks later, the results revealed the culprit: pentobarbital.

I can tell you after the bird flu, I feel grateful for the eagles I see.

Zoom to appreciate.

Thanks to everyone that views and comments on my images - very much appreciated.

Unable to re-visit Conowingo Dam this year to photograph the Bald eagles, I am resorting to re-visiting the archives.

This eagle has been down at my creek for a week or so now. One time I scared him up while down at the creek getting some rocks to use in my yard. Another time I was down at the creek and he/she flew up the creek right by me.

Then a couple days ago it was flying way up in the air, high over my creek as I was sitting in my backyard with my critters and there was another bird flying around that at first I thought was a hawk and that it was chasing this eagle.

Turns out though, that the other bird was a juvenile Bald eagle. I didn't realize that though until I had uploaded the photos I got onto my computer.

Both these photos are very heavily cropped so they aren't of the best quality but it was a cool thing to see so I'm sharing them anyway.

Tomorrow I will have surgery in Boston. I'm not sure when I will fully recover but am hopeful in time to see the osprey as they return for the alewives.

When I see these birds I think of these lyrics by John Denver:

I am the eagle, I live in high country

In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky

I am the hawk and there's blood on my feathers

But time is still turning they soon will be dry

And all of those who see me, all who believe in me

Share in the freedom I feel when I fly

Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops

Sail over the canyons and up to the stars

And reach for the heavens and hope for the future

And all that we can be and not what we are

I will miss you all!!

Take good care,

Joan

The Crested Caracara (Caracara cheriway) is a member of the falcon family despite its quite non falcon-like behavior and appearance. It occurs in Florida, Texas and Arizona and southward into the tropical areas of Central and South America. A similar species, the Southern Caracara (Caracara plancus) occurs all the way south to the Tierra del Fuego area of South America. The Crested Caracara will often feed on snakes, lizards, and other live prey, but it will readily feed on carrion as well. This species has often been referred to as "Mexican Eagle" and is, in fact, thought to be the bird depicted on the original national emblem and flag of Mexico. The modern Mexican emblem and flag now show a Golden Eagle.

I found this one along Peavine Road in Osceola County, Florida.

Another archives shot taken on the Homer Spit, Alaska on 29 July, 2019.

While photographing a Bald eagle at rest atop a navigational buoy out in the bay, we noticed small industrial pier just off to our left. Strung along on of the ledgeโ€™s underneath was a series of seagull nests, the first I had ever seen. Within seconds of noticing the nests, one of the juvenile seagulls decided it was time to test its wings, jumping from the nest. It flapped its wings it what looked to be much more of a controlled crash than a first flight. As it hit the calm waters below, it tucked its wings and floated there for just a split second, and then it died.

While we were watching the baby seagull, apparently the eagle was as well. Within a second of its landing, the eagle snatched it up, causing not just a sad scene for us to witness, but placed some twenty or so seagulls in the air, doing what little they could in attempting a rescue.

In a way it was hard to watch as it was nature at its core. Once I remembered what a pain in the backside seagulls are and how much I love eagles, I felt much better!

These young eagles I came upon the other day. The older one had the youngster just a flying off and then he took over what the other was eating on. Fun to watch them.

The refuge was very active with 5 Eagles I spotted flying around along 75-100 Great Egrets and many more variety of birds in the area.

A beautiful proud Tawny Eagle, I felt privileged to watch him fly. This image was taken at the International Center for Birds of Prey in Gloucestershire, UK.

One of the first eagles I've seen this season

It has been almost a year since I have seen the Eagles. I sure miss them. Thanks for your visits and comments.

No matter how many times I might see the bald eagle I am always in awe. In awe of his incredible beauty. They are so majestic and have always been a symbol of strength and courage to me. Have enjoyed every moment I have been fortunate to share with them.

Wishing yo a lovely night and a very blessed one !!!

Bald Eagle I was going thru the archives and found these images taken down at the Conowingo Dam back in November 2017 so, I thought I'd share them with you

Bald Eagle coming in for a landing at John Chesnut Senior Park, Palm Harbor, Florida, USA.

So this shot was taken a little later in the morning than I wanted. The sun was higher in the sky and, consequently, there is more harsh shadowing on the eagle. I usually like to quit by 9:30 AM but, on this day, I stayed later and got what I got. Nevertheless, an eagle is an eagle and this was an action shot, therefore a keeper.

Thanks for visiting and for your faves and comments.

Rough-legged Hawk

"Juvenile Female Light Morph"

Burlington County, NJ

On my way to the shore, I saw a light and dark morph rough-legged hawk flying with an eagle. I never found any of the snowy owls that were there last weekend.

Easy to understand why Bison were worshipped by many native american tribes. There is something moving and inspirational about these impressive mammals, the largest in North America.

Along with the Bald Eagle, I feel Bison best represent America and it's many cultures.

The early morning fog in Yellowstone's Hayden Valley added a nice misty mood to this grazing herd.

Hope your weekend is off to a great start.

One of the most impressing birds of prey - the Stellar's Sea Eagle. I don't know a bird that looks more majestic than them

A gathering of Bald Eagles.

I don't know why these birds would gather where they do unless it was to try and pick up a little more warmth from the sun on a cold day. Explore # 334. Thanks to my friends for all your view and favs.

My friend and I went looking for something different, so we went up in the local mountains. Not much going on, but I got my junco, Steller's Jay, and this Bald Eagle. I'm pretty proud of my camera for finding it fly out of the pine and across the small lake out of sight. Cropped a lot.

An early morning look at a bald eagle. I never get tired of seeing these glorious creatures!

Goldfinch (M)

While at the landing watching eagles, I realized my love for the little ones...

Be well!!

When I was out in Brackendale shooting all these majestic eagles, I only had to stand and wait for the intense expressions they gave. I could watch them all the time this close and never grow tired of it.

One of 4 Bald Eagles I spotted on Saturday at the Eagle and Frying Pan rivers.

Lately I've been fixated on eagles. I know they are so abundant in northern climes and easy to see in great numbers. Not so much here in Florida, where they are abundant but much more challenging to photograph. I'm planning a van trip (finally) in May and June with a good portion of the trip dedicated to eagle photography. I just can't seem to get enough.

Bald Eagle I seen the other day, I only had the 100-400mm lens on. So kind of a distant shot, still happy to see this bird of prey regardless. :)

I consider this shot my favorite of 2020. Why? Well, I love the wing position of this mature bald eagle. I love the look of the face and neck. I cropped it tight to show nothing really but the eagle. I framed an 11 x 14 print of it and it now hangs in my office. It's one of my all-time favorites. I also like the fact that Flickr asks for your one favorite photograph of each year since, I think, 2017. I actually have a folder where I put my candidates throughout the year and then think about which one I want to be my annual favorite. So, thanks Flickr for thinking of this special group!

Stone Eagle I had gone off the Interstate while in the Blue Ridge Mountains to a very small town and saw this beautiful Eagle next to the RR tracks, very impressive.

This is one of the bald eagles I saw at Alert Bay. Isn't he regal?

Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. I very much appreciate it.

I was driving though Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, when I spotted this bald eagle. I figured it would fly away before I could get my camera ready, so I continued driving without stopping to attempt taking a photo. About a half mile down the road I decided to go back on the off chance that I could get a shot, and I am glad that I did! The eagle was still there, and striking a nice pose for me!

Hard to believe a fish this big was in a shallow tidal pond. The Heron stabbed it with its sharp bill and flew around the pond area trying to outrun other Heron and an Eagle. I think my proximity to the Heron may have made the Eagle think twice about going in for the grab. This is a big crop, the long bed of seaweed is extremely slippery.

Eagle

They came flying from far away, now I'm under their spell

I love hearing the stories that they tell

They've seen places beyond my land and they've found new horizons

They speak strangely but I understand

And I dream I'm an eagle

And I dream I can spread my wings

Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky

I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze

High, high, what a feeling to fly

Over mountains and forests and seas

And to go anywhere that I please

As all good friends we talk all night, and we fly wing to wing

I have questions and they know everything

There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher

Am I dreaming or is it all real?

Is it true I'm an eagle?

Is it true I can spread my wings?

Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky

(I'm an eagle)

I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze

High, high, what a feeling to fly

(What a feeling)

Over mountains and forests and seas

And to go anywhere that I please

And I dream I'm an eagle

And I dream I can spread my wings

Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky

(I'm an eagle)

I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze

High, high, what a feeling to fly

(What a feeling)

Over mountains and forests and seas

Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky

(I'm an eagle)

I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze

High, high, what a feeling to fly

(What a feeling)

Over mountains and forests and seas

And to go anywhere that I please

This is the crested serpent eagle I referred to in my previous post. it was more a less around the corner, we first saw this one, and then about 40 meters later we saw the fish owl.

Both were sitting and probably living near a small pond, where their food was swimming around. But they feed also on snakes, hence the name.

Leaving the eagles, I dodged north to Sol Duc Falls in Olympic National Park, then continued along the coast southward to make my way to Sea Ranch, California where I was meeting friends. I've attached a couple of images from Sol Duc and one from Cannon Beach where I was just barely lucky enough to reach in time for a gorgeous sunset.

I couldn't find any warblers today and at least this guy didn't move too quickly and was easy to see! Beautiful even on the unnatural perch.

Anyone who doesn't realise this and doesn't understand that I'm doing everything that I will be able to go back to the summits after all these years...

doesn't understand me in the slightest.

My place isn't my couch,

my place is outside in the nature,

in the mountains,

to find the open places

and to let my mind fly like an eagle.

I 'only' have to tell my body and mind to forget all these years of pain and struggle ...

It seems they are listening to me, finally.

It has been a long rocky road for years to get here and I will keep going.

I'm on my way.
