60 / 365 In a small churchyard nearby lie these tiny graves of the children of three families from the 17 and 1800's; all but two living less than a year, and none reaching their second birthday.
They are the reference used by Charles Dickens in his novel Great Expectations when talking about the loss of 9 children from one family.
The famous Skinny Bridge in Amsterdam across the river Amstel and opposite of the Carré theatre, is an Old Dutch design wooden bridge known as a double-swipe (balanced) bridge. Tradition relates that the bridge was named after the sisters Mager, who were supposed to live on opposite sides of the river. They are said to have had the wooden bridge built to make it easier to visit one another. However it appears more likely that the original bridge acquired the name from being so narrow (mager means skinny in Dutch), that it was hard for two pedestrians to pass one another.
As traffic along the river Amstel increased, a wider bridge replaced the narrow one in 1871. Skinny Bridge is far not skinny anymore, but one of the most beautiful bridges in Amsterdam. At night many lights illuminate the bridge, then it becomes a very romantic place, popular with lovers and photographers.
The name plate of the houseboat in the foreground reads'Goede verwachting', meaning Good Expectations.

December 11-13, 2010
After nearly 12 months of submissions, selections, networking and logistics, 50 works will be on exhibition ready for the final vote by artists! 40,000 euro prizes awarded on the night. Celeste Prize is an international contemporary art prize that allows artists from all over the world, to be democratically brought to the view of curators without the process of studio visits.
Within the prize, a thematic exhibition was also open for submissions. Manon Slome and Julian Navarro were nominated to be jurors for the prize and curators for this year’s exhibition titled Expectations.
Ten artists respectively were selected for venues in Berlin and New York City. In this project, No Longer Empty’s goal is to convey the message of Expectations.
Below is an excerpt from Manon Slome's catalogue essay:
Expectations is conceived as an exhibition that uses the image less for purposes of representation than as a tool for setting something into motion - whether it be action, emotion, a state of being or becoming. Works selected will convey a sense that the image leads beyond the scope of the painting or photograph, that the moment we see in the frame is just the frozen predicament before what will happen next. The whole idea of anticipation is that it is open ended, looking forward instead of to the past. In essence, the curatorial intention is to be liberating."
“Expectations” creates a fitting challenge for artists who have entered a juried prize and for an economic and political climate where boundaries of the expected are continually being challenged.

After a very long wait work has started on the new outdoor Model Boating Pond at the Scottish Maritime Museum. The local model lads are eagerly looking forward to the completion and filling and we have great hopes of attracting many kids to the Museum.

At the outset, we asked participants to discuss their expectations for the workshop and their experiences, and we divided the 35 attendees into groups of five and six people to facilitate discussion.

Expectations.
I was taking shots to check the exposure settings, and liked this one so much that I decided to make it my daily photo. This was the first recital where D1 really did well, a flawless (to the untrained ear at least) flute piano duet in a church with amazing acoustics. It was a big morale boost for her to master something after practice and effort.

The drought hit "Wewala lake (වෑවල වැව)" as seen from the point where its feeder "Kiri Oya (කිරි ඔය)" is supposed to be entering the lake. it's been several months long sever drought and the feeder is dried up fully. In fact almost all of the springs in the Nuwaragala Kanda (නුවරගල කන්ද) where Kiri Oya starts are dried up. Though a few dark clouds are hovering over and every living being is expecting rains, rain does not look anywhere closer yet.
Sometimes society puts too much pressure on children to conform to prescribed social roles...especially girls !! I thought this image seemed to represent that aptly. This was a 'what do you want to become when u grow up' booth at a children's fair !!

Few places have ever shattered my expectations like Nicaragua. From some of the Caribbean's most stunning island paradises to laid-back colonial towns, thick, mysterious jungles and bustling metro centers, Nicaragua offers a taste of something exciting for everyone.

This is a photograph from the start of the 36th Michael Manning Memorial "Dunshaughlin 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 20th June 2015 at 19:30. This race is widely acknowledged within the Irish running community as one of the best races in Ireland. While being very well attended and competitive it is also one of the oldest 10KM races in Ireland. The numbers for this race have exceeded expectations year on year for the past number of years. In 2008 a record field of 306 took to the start line but by 2012 this number had more than doubled with 647 runners taking part. The starting numbers in 2013 topped this again at 668. Last year, 2014, the numbers rocketed to a new record of 883. This year 862 finished the race showing that the race continues to attract very substantial crowds. This year, as in previous years, the race attracted runners from not just all of Leinster but from the four corners of Ireland. Who knows but this race could reach 1,000 entrants next year? The work of the organising committee must be commended on making this event possible. The Dunshaughlin 10KM has earned it's place at the top of the pedestal of Irish running through the sheer hard work of Dunshaughlin AC over the years. Road race events do not survive on their own. There must be dedication, hard work and a development vision amongst the committee and the host club. Well done to all.
We have an extensive set of photographs from the race tonight taken at the 1 mile mark. The full set is available at: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157654432568258

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
