British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) began as a child star. As an adult she came to be known for her acting talent and beauty. She had a much publicised private life, including eight marriages and several near death experiences. Taylor was considered one of the great actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age.
Richard Burton (1925–1984) was one of the great British actors of the post World War II period. Although never trained as an actor, he became famous on stage in most of the plays by William Shakespeare. Blessed with a thrillingly theatrical voice, Burton also became, at one time, the highest-paid film actor in the world. He was nominated seven times for an Academy Award, six of which were for Best Actor in a Leading Role (without ever winning), and was a recipient of BAFTA, Golden Globe and Tony Awards for Best Actor. His adulterous romance with Elizabeth Taylor became an international scandal and their two tempestuous marriages were covered in detail by the paparazzi.

As Elizabeth moved around unobstructed she signed several autographs for shop assistants and two little European sisters. She also bought a huge toy tiger, rabbit and lion for the Shaw's Christmas tree and asked Mrs Shaw (right) to give them to underprivileged children.

Here starts my new '10 things' project, originally inspired by Elizabeth Taylor. I've been trying to write a list of 10 things that I loved about that day, more or less daily, for a while now. Now I'll start taking pictured of some of those things. Perhaps not on a daily basis, but when I feel like it.

I love summer nights. The fact that I can go out in the garden at 10pm and the sun is still only thinking about going to bed. The scent and the warm breeze are truly lovely.
This was the day of the premiere of "Giant", the last James Dean film.
This and many other of my photographs are featured in my book "London, Portrait of a City, 1950 to 1962" (Allan Hailstone, publ. Amberley Publishing), together with the story of how I came to photograph them and my memories of past London.

San Angelo is a city in and the county seat of Tom Green County, Texas, United States. Its location is in the Concho Valley, a region of West Texas between the Permian Basin to the northwest, Chihuahuan Desert to the southwest, Osage Plains to the northeast, and Central Texas to the southeast.
