The E-Class All-Terrain is like a normal estate on stilts. It stands 15mm higher than a normal estate and can be raised another 20mm. It has permanent four-wheel drive and if raised it lowers itself automatically when the road speed exceeds 20mph. The 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine develops 258bhp and 620Nm of torque, all at over 40mpg. 0-62 takes 6.2 seconds, helped by the fact that the engine will rev to 5,500rpm, almost unheard of for a diesel. Top speed is limited to 155mph. What's not to like? Well perhaps the price - £58,880 for the standard car, but then no one ever said that having the best of the best was going to be cheap.
