Heterotypic Synonyms:

Dendrochilum ramosii Ames, Philipp. J. Sci., C 8: 410 (1913 publ. 1914).

Dendrochilum filiforme var. ramosii (Ames) L.O.Williams, Bot. Mus. Leafl. 5: 49 (1937).

 

Found in Luzon and Negros. At elevations of between 660 and 2,250 metres.

Originally thought endemic to the Province of Pangasinan in the Philippines but it has now also been found on the Island of Cebu

Distribution: Taiwan (Hengchun Pen., Lan Yü) to Philippines (38 TAI 42 PHI)

 

Heterotypic Synonyms:

Dendrochilum cucumerinum Rchb.f., Gard. Chron., n.s., 22: 649 (1884).

Acoridium cucumerinum (Rchb.f.) Rolfe, Orchid Rev. 12: 220 (1904).

Platyclinis formosana Schltr., Bull. Herb. Boissier, sér. 2, 6: 302 (1906).

Dendrochilum formosanum (Schltr.) Schltr., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. Beih. 4: 185 (1919).

Dendrochilum uncatum var. formosanum (Schltr.) T.Hashim., J. Jap. Bot. 57: 26 (1982).

It is a big plant compared to Dendrochilum gracile in front of it.

Labelled Dendrochilum magnum, Jim Cootes commented that in his opinion it was Dendrochilum macranthum. "I have never seen what I would consider to be a true Dendrochilum magnum, even in the Philippines."

A nice specimen at the Piedmont Orchid Society show.

Great outdoor grower. In time it can make a fine specimen too, as other photos on flickr show.

L'Amazone de Gérard Schmidt - Gärtnerei Schullian (Bozen-Bolzano)

A beautiful species endemic to the Philippines. It has a lovely cinnamon like scent.

Jim Cootes elevated this to species level in 2011. It was previously considered a variety of Dendrochilum curranii (Dendrochilum curranii var. serratoi (Ames) L.O.Williams 1951). From the Philippines.
