Dendrochilum photos on Flickr

An orchid species from Philippines, which grows at high mountainous altitudes and grows easily in cultivation. I originally paid $20 for a plant with 6 leaves and have grown it into this specimen over a period of about 20 years. It looks more like a clump of grass and the individual flowers are less than 1.5mm across. I have included pics of the whole plant and a few close ups of the flowers, which are quite interesting when seen large in comparison to their actual minute size.

This is the blooming season for this very fragrant Dendrochilum. The plant is growing in a 5-inch plastic pot. It is hung outdoors under 50% shade cloth. The plant from the top of the pot to the highest point of the tallest leaf measures 24 inches. The leaves are very clean. I received a 5 bulb cutting of the plant from S&W Orchids three years ago.
