Just because he wanted to drive this car legally.
A true enthusiast.

Stainless style - after a stellar career at General Motors, John Zachary DeLorean decided to go it alone and set up the DeLorean Motor Company in 1973. The DMC DeLorean featured a gull-wing doored, Giugiaro-penned body, clad in brushed stainless steel and finally launched in 1981.
Dogged by production delays and somewhat insipid performance from its 130hp V6 engine, sales never lived up to expectation and the DeLorean Motor Company was placed into receivership in February 1982. The final straw came in October 1982, when John DeLorean was arrested for cocaine trafficking and although he successfully defended himself in court on the grounds of entrapment, DMC had already filed for bankruptcy and closed.
Fast-forward to 1985 and a DMC DeLorean was cast in a starring role in Robert Zemeckis’ science-fiction classic Back to the Future, with a few modifications for time travel and the license plate ‘ OUTATIME”. Today the DeLorean has a cult following, with around 6,500 of the 9,000 made still on the road.
So, do you prefer the sharp-suited style of the standard car, or will you grab your hi-tops and ‘life-preserver’ and take an awkward ride to meet your teenage mother?
A year in the making, here is my Back To The Future (1985 version) Delorean.
I wanted to try and get the profile as low as possible, while retaining the tapered angles above the wheels. And I also tried to keep the scale consistent with the windscreen piece. It was a tricky balancing act but I'm happy with how it's turned out.

Almost every colour matches of course, because of the stainless steel finish of the DeLorean. Without checking Wikepedia or Google - where came this gullwings drivetrain from?
Seen in Broek in Waterland, a small village famous for its grey painted wooden houses. Because of the location close to Amsterdam and the very scenic area, properties are very expensive here.
