Our new model railroad, the n scale Kauai sugar plantation railway is a fictional sugar plantation in Hawaii that somehow survived long enough to see diesel use.

The diesel in question is a Delprado QR2130 diesel, motored using an Atlas RSD4/5 chassis with a specially milled frame.

Perhaps of note it's the first locomotive I've worked on in over fifteen years, and the first ever "fantasy freelance" locomotive.

Currently running as the reserve TL is Magirus-Deutz 256D14/Rosenbauer B955 EVY, the only appliance in the current fleet to wear dayglo livery. This is another Del Prado model, originally lettered for a Belgian brigade, although several of these early Magirus aerials were sold in the UK. Crew cab TLs are unusual but not unknown with UK brigades. Note that the beacons are unusually attached to the sides of the ladder rather than the cab roof.

Arrived late afternoon and explored the city until quite late. View from hotel Sevillia.

Zastava 128. The saloon version came late to the UK, a couple of years after the hatchback, and so was marketed as the Yugo 411 or 413, depending on engine size

The Zastava 1300 was a licence built Fiat 1300, considered by many to be the best car produced in then-Yugoslavia.

1938 Bedford MSC which started out as a prototype drop side vehicle at the Luton factory. Converted to a crew cab with a 50ft wheeled escape for use by the firms fire department.

Other users include the Luton Fire Brigade and Brockhall Hospital, also displayed at the Sheffield Fire & Police Museum.

Now at Anglesey Transport Museum.

Taken from partwork publicity sheet in my collection. This registration mark got put on a Bedford fire engine model with a similar cab but different body, labelled Liverpool FB

The model below was produced by the same partwork. All very confusing.

This poster outside the Fullerton Museum Center shows the photo "Frida with Red Rebozo, New York, 1939" taken by her friend and lover Nickolas Muray. The photo served as the basis of Frida's image in Diego Rivera's monumental mural "Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda", originally done for the Hotel del Prado, now in its own museum in Mexico City.

Muray, born in Hungary, was a photographer trained in Germany with a studio in New York, as well as an Olympic fencer. He had a 10-year affair with Frida Kahlo (long kept secret from her husband Diego Rivera), documented in the exhibit in photos and letters. In addition there is a video with rememberances of Frida by her surviving art students.

Muray may be little remembered today, but in his time he was renowned for magazine, portrait, and celebrity photos. He introduced color photography to mass market advertising. His exhibits of advertising photos in the 1930's were the precursor of Andy Warhol's "Pop Art" paintings of soup cans and Brillo boxes in the 1960's.

Frida Kahlo's father was also a photography. Arrived about a year late to see an exhibit of his work in the Viceroy Period Museum in Tepotzotlan, Mexico.
