Mysore Zoo was originally created in 1892 on 10 acres (4.0 ha) of the summer palace of Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar, and was originally called the Palace Zoo. The zoo was originally set up by G.H. Krumbeigal, a German landscaper and horticulturist. Over the next 10 years the zoo was expanded to 45 acres (18 ha) with spacious enclosures that are still in use.

The zoo was opened to the public in 1902, and now includes a bandstand and an artificial lake. It was gifted to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the Mysore State Government in 1948. The zoo was expanded first with another 50 acres (20 ha), and then another 150 acres (61 ha) with the acquisition of the Karanji Tank (Karanji reservoir), in which an artificial island has been created as a sanctuary for birds.

The zoo was handed over to the Forest Department in 1972, and was entrusted to Zoo Authority of Karnataka (the first autonomous organization in India to manage a zoo) in 1979.

It is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in Southern India, and is home to a wide range of species. Mysore Zoo is one of the city’s most popular attractions. It was established under royal patronage in 1892, making it one of the oldest zoos in the world.

While mainly depending on entry fees for its financing, an adoption scheme introduced in the early 2000s at Mysore Zoo has been a success, with celebrities, institutions, and animal lovers contributing directly to the welfare of the zoo inmates.

We are creating an Art Float for Social Change at Tam Makers, to inspire more people to participate in democracy.

Our parade float features Mother Earth and a circle of hands, pulled by the colorful dragon Quetzy. Young activists will sing and speak about social change -- and artists will share their ideas on our spinning carousel. They want you all to vote, speak up and create a better world!

This community art project was created by over a hundred volunteers at Tam Makers, led by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, with the generous support of Good Earth, Mill Valley Community Action Network and Tamalpais High School.

The Art Float for Social Change will reach out to youth and people of color through art, music and technology. We will present this art show on Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin -- and throughout California this fall, to encourage people to vote in the next elections.

Create A Smile September Moodboard Challenge

My impressions to that moodboard:

The colorings will be kept in orange, grey, silver and black like from the first pic. The pic in the right top corner made me think of a shaker card, like the little corns ... The pumkin is round like the sequins I am using. The leaves moving around in autumn like the shaker shaking ... so a lot of celebrations can happen in autumn ... so cheer out loud, dance, shake and have fun all!

Create! A Project A Day ~ February 15

The New Inlet created by Hurricane Irene. I have heard several names but not sure what they are going to name it for sure yet. A couple of the names are Pea Island Inlet and New New Inlet.

The New New Inlet would be named for an inlet that opened just to the south of this inlet in a Hurricane in 1738. It closed in 1922 after the much bigger Oregon Inlet, which open in 1846, reduced the water flow to the inlet.

If you would like to read a little about New Inlet and see a photo read my post on New Inlet NC here --> Dusk a New Inlet NC.

One thing is certain Mother Nature always amazes me. I had just hiked down the beach in this area about 2 weeks before Hurricane Irene, only to return 6 weeks later to stand on the shore of a new inlet.

Many people worked tirelessly to construct the new bridge and reconnect Hatteras Island to the outside world. My hats off to NCDOT and everyone who rebuilt NC12 in just 6 weeks! American ingenuity at its best!

Today Statement #33:

"Today I will create something that did not exist before. I will work side by side with my hooligans and soak up their laughter as I watch their genius minds at work because nothing makes me feel better than the soothing sounds of their giggles combined with creating something new."

We created bookmarks for my lesson on Sunday. Among other things. Like messes. :)
